Appearance: Poured a pale-ish, orange-yellow with an inviting, fluffy white top which held a sticky lace.

Smell: Perfectly sweet, citrus hops pour through the aroma along with a touch of other fruits and a tad bit of malts, all at a perfect strength.

Taste: The beginning lingered in a fruity citrus, somewhat malty, but introduced a flavorful bitterness with the hops; the middle sharply peaked the bitterness and sweetness back and forth like a trigonometric wave of sorts; the end tied everything back down purely into a subtle rind, sweet yet bitter, but still calming the tastes.

Mouthfeel: Perfectly carbonated, perfectly smooth, perfectly thick. . . just perfect.

Overall: The artwork stands out in my brain, even when I was too young to drink or too naive. That was all for a reason, this is a pinnacle of beers. If Odell has done anything special it's this: an IPA for anyone with even a slight sense of taste. It's a 6-pack I will come back to that will accompany one of those infinite moments of life. Cheers, Odell, for an untouched IPA.

Fresh hops and an expert hand yields a piney brew with all the great fresh hoppy notes you want in an IPA without all the unwanted aftertaste that a lot of the time comes with an IPA. The label artwork is pretty neat also, very appreciative of breweries that put effort into proper advertisement of their brand. Would drink again 10/10 times.

Pours a light coppery golden with a bone froth atop the clear brew.
Aroma has a strong piney resinous note similar to Rampant DIPA from their neighbor.
The hops pack a wallop but the sweet malt fights back achieving a nice balance. It is amazing how balanced this beer tastes yet the hops sustain a steady bitterness and very flavorful pine throughout the finish.
There is a medium carbonation and medium body. Oily and coating hop resins dominate.
Overall I like this IPA and would seek it out again.

Good, solid, enjoyable IPA. Better than a lot of examples, but not elite status.

Appearance – This is a clear light orange in color with a nice, white, lasting head.

Smell – The big pine and monster orange rind are big but balanced at the nose and the malts are all but absent.

Taste – The giant hops make it righteously to the taste and the malts are again faint. The beer itself is not balanced but very hoppy.

Mouthfeel – This isn’t even medium in the body with some strong drying throughout.

Drinkability – Hopheads will love this beer but it is probably too much for the general public.

Aromas of floral hops and a doughy malt backbone.

Flavor is loaded with flowery, American hops and orange with a great malty balance. Finishes with a gentle hop bite.

In the end, it manages to have great hop flavor minus any harsh or unwanted bitterness. Not the best but respectable and graceful.

A: Beautiful golden pour completely translusent
with lazy but visible carbonation. There is a
scant head with little to no lacing.

S: Nice citrus nose

T: Fruit juicy but also fruit juicy slick.
There is a bitterness at the swallow but
not so strong and unfortunately lingering.

M: This IPA is slick on the pallet going down, a
little too sticky.

D: Not sturdy enough for me, just better than
your average IPA. A beautiful beer.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue VI:

The marketing is straightforward, they took the IPA style and made it bolder or American-style, and at 7.0 percent it's nearing the border of Double IPAs but not quite there. Clear weathered golden color, bright clarity and excellent head retention from the two-fingered head that crowns the top of this brew. Big time citric hop aroma and tangerine and clementine juice, with mint and herbs in the back of the nose. Impeccable smoothness from a deep, underlying carbonation that is most likely being slowed by a ton of hop oil. Medium body. So much hop flavor to go around, thankfully the bitterness does not kill the taste buds. Orange zest and spearmint come to mind. Sure the malt is there, a solid biscuity and slightly sweet foundation that is covered with hop flavor. Slightly dry and bitter finish with a faint earthy, herbal flavor.

Odell Brewing does a superb job brewing this beer, this one gives most West Coast IPAs a run for their hops. A must try for any hophead out there.

A - Golden color, fluffy white head, moderate carbonation, clear with a bit of particulate matter.

S - Lots of hop aroma, citrus and sweet floral. A bit of sweet malt comes through at the end and a touch of toastiness.

T - Almost exactly like the aroma, the hops come on strong but never become overwhelming, they are in balance with the malt. The hops are a nice combination of citrus and floral, with makes it a bit more complex than a lot of the straight forward citrus bombs that a lot of AIPAs are. A little sweetness from the malt finishes things up.

M - Moderate body which is balances nicely with the higher alcohol content and hop presence.

O - This is an excellent AIPA. It isn't just a hop bomb although there are a lot of IBUs there, nor is it super bitter, there is a lot of flavor and aroma from these hops. The hops are a nice combination of varieties which adds some nice complexity. The malt does take a back seat, as it should in an IPA, but it is there and lends a nice amount of body to make this IPA, which is a bit on the strong side, perfectly balanced. Will definitely be looking for this one again.

12oz bottle pours into my glass a crystal clear golden orange hue with a solid inch of creamy white head that sticks around and leaves some sticky lacing. Lots of active carbonation. Aromas of citric green hop resins arise out of the glass with notes of grapefruit and tropical fruits. A mildly sweet crystal malt in the background with just a touch of caramel.

First sip brings a somewhat sweet crystal malt body upfront that moves into some citrusy, medicinal hop flavors. Notes of grapefruit, green hop resin and toasted grains follow. Flows down with a nice bitterness on the end and finishes a tad dry.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a smooth creaminess as the brew goes down. Good, sturdy body for an IPA. I'm just personally not a fan of the hopping that was done on this one. It could've used a bit more malt backbone as well. . Thanks to BitterBill for tossing this my way.

A - Pours a slightly hazy honey color with two fingers of white head. Head has decent retention and leaves a lot of lacing.

S - Big, juicy bouquet of fruit, mostly tangerine and other citrus, along with a touch of honey, some bitter grapefruit rind and a faint amount of malt. Excellent beginning.

T - Similar to smell with more bitterness coming through in the taste. The bitterness doesn't really linger for long, but is definitely a big component of the flavor. Nice malt presence to balance the hops.

M - Medium, slightly oily mouthfeel. Pretty clean finish with only faint bitterness lingering.

O - Between this and Myrcenary, Odell has a very impressive lineup of fruit-forward (i.e. not piney) IPAs. I wish they would distribute in Michigan so I could have these more often.

12 oz bottle, best by 6/22/07. Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a frothy dense white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is piney hops with some melon and biscuity malts.

The flavor is sweet bready malts and some melon leading to a decent piney, peppery hop finish that lingers some in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is is medium to full bodied with some slightly sharp carbonation and sticky hop resin.

Overall, an excellent showing by Odell. This is a well done IPA, not quite top tier, but still very enjoyable.

This beer pours a staw yellow color very cloudy with a ok head it does lace well on the glass.

The aroma is pungent earthy hops smells very fresh a slight malt enters but only slight
The beer is very smooth to star carbonation builds and leaves withabsolutly no harshness. It is sweet to start the hop taste enter but it takes a second. Once they enter they take over leaving a mild bitter on the tongue.

One of the juiciest ipas i've ever had, so much flavor packed into a beer its outstanding, the aftertaste leaves you wanting a ridiculous amount more. I wish this was an everyday item in CT, thanks Tim for hooking me up with this one, as an extra none the less.

If you havent had it, seek it out and try it. If you have access to it, buy it, a lot of it!

12 ounce bottle, has some numbers stamped onto the label, but no clue how to figure out there meaning. Pours clear, typical lighter amber, with bubbles rising to the top and capped with a lovely, frothy just off white head, tha leaves great streaks and wildly patterened lace. NIce looking beer. The nose is equally exemplary, with fresh hop notessticking out so that even my low skilled sniffer can revel in the freshness. I get notes of fresh fruits, apricots and perhaps mangoes as another reviewer mentioned. Plenty of more smooth and tasty hop notes, citrus and grainy goodness. High quality, complex and thoroughly enjoyable Colorado IPA, seek it out and enjoy!

Appearance: amber in color, small head, clear, medium carbonation

Smell: toasted malt and citrusy hops

Taste: citrusy soapy hops with some faint malt

Mouthfeel: smooth, slow start with a sharp bitter finish, medium bodied

Drinkability: This is an average IPA to me. Not bad, but I could just as easily pass. The high ABV is not noticable.

Opened 12 fl. oz. bottle, poured into Nonic pint glass.

Forms a ¼-½" head that holds for a bit atop a light amberish brew with nice bubbles.

Nice pine and citrus smell fill the nose; almost a Forrest floor smell. Taste follows through with slight hoppyness and refreshing pine & citrus notes.

Bubbles complement the experience and help provide a nice finish without that "oily" experience that many IPAs seem to provide.

Great brew. I'm enjoying this one with a nice Putanesca sauce. Complements it quite well.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Clear orange-gold with moderate eggshell white head that leaves nice lacing rings.

Smell: Mostly pine and grapefruit, with spice and light toasted malts.

Taste: Very hoppy with pine, grapefruit and some tropical fruit. The toasted malts are very dry and almost a little sour. Ends somewhat bitter and spicy. Fantastic balance, or is it a lack thereof?

Feel: Moderately low carbonation, medium almost oily body that is fairly creamy and smooth. Very dry sour finish.

Drinkability: Extremely good IPA. This beer makes me ecstatic that Odell came to Minnesota.

I've got to say, this was the best beer of the weekend. $12 a six-pack, but worth it. Poured clear copper-orange with a squatty whtie head. Okay retention, but thick lacing. Ripe, pink grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, and peach. Very perfumey, but fresh. Velvety mouthfeel with good carbonation. Crisp, yet lingering finish. The taste was exceptional. Clean, fresh hop character, even though this is not a "fresh hop" IPA. Lots of grapefruit and tangerine, with mango and even a little strawberry/kiwi. Small doses of pepper and resin. Pleasant malt backbone gives it a little biscuit to balance it out without making it sticky sweet. As for drinkability, having one just made you want more. An outstanding IPA.

I really wanted to like this - especially after all the good reviews, but I didn't get nearly the taste I was hoping for. Perhaps my tastebuds have deadened. :)
Appearance and smell were top notch, but somehow it fell flat for me. I did enjoy Myrcenary and Wooden Sidecar though - will try again sometime just to double check my findings.

12oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. no freshness date.

pours out a slightly cloudy light copper, orange color with one fingers worth of retentive white head. some pretty good looking lace.

crisp grapefruit citrus, pineapple as well as a touch of other such tropical fruits, slightly dank, a bready, biscuity malt is hidden way beneath the hops.

lots of dry, bitter, crisp citrus fruits. grapefruit, slight lemon, pine and grassiness with hints of dank tropical fruit towards the finish. again a bready malt in the background. a sharp biterness lingers.

crisp and rather thirst quenching. appears lighter than it is. medium bodied. very easy drinking.

a solid IPA i would definatly come back to, i could see this going down very well in the summer time. not anything super unique, but they got everything right with this. well made. my first impression with odell was a good one.

On Tap

The Fox and Hound
Peoria, AZ

Dark copper in color with a moderately sized light khaki colored head that leaves lines of lace down the glass.

A bready aroma complemented by a bit of caramel and bittering hops.

The hop flavor comes in the way of a moderate level of bitterness, along with bready, slight caramel, sweet malts. Well balanced and drinkable, but unexciting.

Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation.

Middle of the road IPA.

A - Golden orange color with a slight haze. Nice thin head that remained throughout

S - Floral hop aroma with strong notes of citrus, especially grapefruit

T - An excellent citrus flavor that is never superseded by the hops. This is a flavorful IPA that is slightly sweet with a taste of grapefruit and a healthy hop backbone.

M - A medium-body beer with good carbonation and an oily feel that finishes cleanly.

D - A great IPA with excellent aftertaste.

A 12oz bottle with a bottled-on date of July 11th 2012. Picked up from Trembling Madness in York. I've heard good things about this beer, and the label artwork is great.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A rich golden-amber hue with faint haze and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly subsides to a surface layer. Nice frothy lacing. Aroma of fruity hop notes - grapefruit, orange peel, citrus and hay, underpinned by biscuity caramel malt and earthy yeast. Delicious.

Tastes of sharp, citrus-laden aromatic hops with a malty backbone and a powerful bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, bitter orange, citrus oil, grass, mild caramel and dry, earthy yeast. A hint of sweetness and biscuity grain, accompanied by a strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, spicy, tingly and dry. Great body. Highly astringent, with an aftertaste of intense aromatic citrus and a hint of malt.

Superb. A top-notch American IPA with tons of aromatic hops, plenty of malt and some serious bitterness. Powerful, yet slides down all too easily. I love the Odell beers I've tried and this is no exception. Well worth sampling if you have the opportunity.

Appearance: Pours a semi-clear, bright gold. Small white head fades rather quickly but a thin lace lingers.

Aroma: Quite aggressive aroma. Pungently floral up front but I really liked the lemon, grapefruit, citrus-y flavors towards the end. Nothing but hops here.

Taste: Quite refreshing! Bitter and hoppy from the get-go but finishes light, sweet, and citrus-y. Virtually no malt flavor.

Palate: Very light-bodied, lively carbonation and a very clean mouthfeel.

Overall: Another highly drinkable IPA, I think they're finally starting to grow on me :) Great hop flavor without being annoyingly bitter. Great mouthfeel and aftertaste so I almost want to savor the flavor, but it's so light and clean I can't fight the desire to indulge.
