Beautiful white foam head floats above a separation of slightly hazy, orange and yellow body.
Nose: orange and grapefruit rinds, a fruity bouquet of hop goodness, with sweet bread in the background.
Taste: the hops impart flavor throughout, from the citrus rind with a bready zest, to tropical flavors as it warms a bit. Yes the pint is emptying quickly.
Mouthfeel: creamy, smooth, medium carbonated. Bitterness and hop dankness feels juicy and extremely well balanced. Ends perfectly.
This to me is a perfect example of an IPA. Probably not my favorite, but among the best I've ever tasted. Grain and hop balance are spot on for highly drinkable smoothness. My first try from this brewery, which is new to the TX market. It's reputation holds up well (as do most in the brewscape). (786 characters)

Here is where Beer Advocate is your friend. I was in a hurry in Texas awaiting to go back to Boston, and I wanted to get a great beer not sold in the NE. Searched SPECS and found this beer and was impressed with the 100 from the brothers. So clearly I bought it and will need to give it the same score

I am sitting alone in my poorly lit living room, so the beer once again looks a copper color. In the dark, everything either looks dark or copper to me. I accidentally drink many things. This also had some moderate lacing and looks great. Of course a hoppy smell, but also a great deal of fruit....grapefruit I suppose. Anyways, took a sip and it is a big hoppy blast. This was just a perfect amount of bitterness and zest - a great beer. I do think it has a slightly odd after taste - can't put my finger on it, but I still like it.

Nice carbonation and a pleasant beer on an oddly very hot day in Boston. I could have more, but alas, I am lazy and don't feel like walking to the fridge. (992 characters)

Bottle shared by stillmatic2232.

Pours a dark orange, with a small, half inch head, with a little bit of lacing down the glass. Looks oily.

Smells like pine, grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and hop oils. No malt in the aroma.

Tastes great. Dank herbal hop flavor up front, a good amount of pine, that's washed away by sweet juicy fruity hop flavor near the end- a good amount of grapefruit, some orange rind. Lots of flowery perfumey hop flavors as well. Just a big swirling maelstrom of hop flavor here, all the great flavors I love in an IPA are all right here. Very little malt flavor noted.

Medium bodied, crisp, clean mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

This one's great, this one flies under the radar due to not being a special release. Utterly delicious. (758 characters)

Amber orange in color with 2 fingers of white head. Solid lacing. Hop smell jumps out. Pine, grassy. I could sit and smell this beer all day! The bitterness of the hops is there in the taste, but not the same distinct flavors. A bit of the malt sweetness comes through. Solid beer, but the hop flavor could use refinement. (322 characters)

This is one of the best IPA'S readily available in kc. Pours a nice burnt orange. Smell is flowery and hoppy. Taste is very citrisy and hop forward, but very smooth and balanced. This one is a staple IPA. There are many great IPA's out there and this holds its own. (271 characters)

Color- dark gold. Full head.

Aroma- very aromatic grapefruit rind hops.

Taste- starts with strong cascade grapefruit hops and stays strong throughout, hints of lemon zest in the middle, and finishing long and hoppy like biting into a grapefruit seed. 60 IBUs.

Honestly, I cannot fathom a rating of 100 for this brew.

Poured from 355 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). (430 characters)

Obtained this beer via a trade with BA Minterro.

Poured the bottle into a pint glass

A: Vibrant color with a quick dissipating head

S: Really liked the smell, very tropical

T: Hand in hand with the smell. I really enjoyed it, hoppy and strong citrus notes

O: Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. A great smell and taste with strong citrus and hoppy notes. Really excited to drink more of these west coast beers. (416 characters)

Odell IPA pours a hazy copper color with a nice large lacing head. There is a nice hoppy/floral aroma. The taste has a nice noticeable malty backbone, with earthy hoppy flavors. Good feel, good strong flavors. Overall, its a very earthy IPA, while enjoyable, a bit overrated. (275 characters)

On tap at a place called 415 in Ft. Collins.

A creamy one-finger white head over a slightly hazy amber orange.

Smells like orange and orange zest and... not a whole lot else. Not complex, but a good scent.

Tastes even more like that juicy citrus, with a bready, malty finish.

Medium to light bodied.

It's not the best IPA I've had by any means, but it's definitely solid. (376 characters)

Pours light amber/honey color with thick foamy head. It most dissipates but still remains through drinking with excellent lacing on the side of the glass. Strong, citrus, piney, hoppy aroma. Citrus, malty taste up front with great piney hops on the back end. Leaves just right amount of bitter aftertaste. The malts and hops compliment each other very well. (357 characters)

Appearance: Bright yellow glass holds a fluffy white finger of foam that lasts and laces.

Smell: Rich hops speak west coast grapefruit, pine tar, and floral notes with little hints of sugary base.

Taste: Generally clean, hop flavors slowly build up to a satisfying bitter that keeps a lot of the citric fruity notes that I really like. The base is a bit of sugar cookie dough that lets the hops do their thing.

Mouthfeel: Prickly carbonation in a medium heavy glass that is a bit oily.

Overall: Solid IPA! Great west coast citric flavor, nothing distracting from the full hop flavor that manages to bring volume without going bitter or burning. A great slow sipper with a lot of bang for the buck. (701 characters)

Amazing bouquet- hoppy and citrus. Great color and head. Not enough citrus in the taste, though. It definitely needed more for balance. Mouthfeel is heavy; could be brighter. Overall, this beer was very drinkable but the taste was not citrusy enough for what I believe is required of an exceptional IPA. Which is ironic because I got those notes in the smell which was perfect. (377 characters)

Appearance: cream colored head recedes slowly, heavy amount of lacing. Color is slightly cloudy amber/orange. Some carbonation streaming.
Aroma: combination of bready malt and earthy hops.
Mouthfeel: medium with a mostly dry finish.
Finish: well balanced between the sweet barley malt and a fairly aggressive citrus and earthy hop presence.
Overall: enjoyable and drinkable IPA. Good representation of an American IPA. (422 characters)

Served in a bottle, so appearance this time is based on the bottle design. Odell designs are possibly my favourite.

S - floral citrus hop, strong but not overpowering

T - pine, citrus hop hit followed by earthy and malt. Outstanding.

M - Very smooth in the mouth although quite carbonated. In this beer it works well.

All in all an outstanding brew. Are with spicy burritos and paired perfectly. (407 characters)

A - Pours a beautiful orange-yellow color into my New Belgium 470 ml globe glass. One-half finger of white foam. Curtain-like lacing adorns the glass as the beer is drank down.

S - The aroma of in-your-face hops is front-and-center. Grapefruit, lemon, orange, and banana come to mind. Smells like a can of freshly-opened citrus fruit cocktail!

T - Tastes similar to the aroma. Hops dominate, but with some sweet malt in the background to balance things out. Citrus fruits and banana, along with white pepper. In the aftertaste, a bitter-sweet apricot nectar flavor follows through.

M - Medium body with just the right amount of carbonation. Pleasantly sudsy. A smooth-drinking IPA that goes down effortlessly.

O - Fantastic aroma and taste combination that makes this IPA what is is - truly outstanding. Highly recommended. (828 characters)

I went with an imperial pint glass on this one to give lots of head space and also for a tapered top to better hold onto the volatiles and aroma (a shaker glass doesn't do this and in my opinion is kind of a catch-all that isn't tailor made for anything).

The aroma was floral and citrus. Clean. Not overpowering. Just pleasant and right on the money.

It was gold in color with a white head that persisted quite well until I started drinking it. Thereafter it maintained a thin white head until I finished it. Good clarity and two or three columns of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. I observed thin lacing on the glass as I drank (fun to ponder--kind of like looking at clouds and thinking about what shapes they're making).

The first sip was all mouth-feel (carbonation was ample), but as I built up a finish in my mouth (and maybe as it warmed) the flavor emerged nicely. Citrusy hops take center stage, but having said that this is a well-balanced IPA in terms of its malt presence. There was a pleasant hops bitterness on the back of the tongue. The finish lingers and is very enjoyable even after the beer is gone.

This is a great example of an American IPA. (1,180 characters)

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Medium bitterness.

Overall - Kinda nondescript. (372 characters)

From notes.

12oz bottle purchased at Pilgrim's in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. According to the label it was either brewed on or best by 9/20/13. I know I purchased it after that date, so I think it was a brewed on date.

Poured a semi-clear orangey amber color, with a big, sudsy white head that left lots of lace on the sides of my glass.

The nose was of citrusy and piney hops.

The taste was more piney and more bitter than the nose led me to believe it would be, and is more balanced. There's just enough maltiness to provide a nice backbone.

Medium bodied, with an oily, prickly mouthfeel.

A very tasty example of a west coast IPA, despite it's Colorado origins. Some might consider that the west coast, but not me. Regardless of it's origin, I'd drink it again. (765 characters)

Simply put, this is the best IPA I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Big hoppy taste with just enough malt to mask the significant 7.0% ABV. If there is a knock here (and it is a stretch to say there is) it would be with the appearance when poured into a clear pint glass. Color is a light rust with a slight cloudy haze. That being said, do you drink beer because of it's appearance? Heck, no. This is a truly magnificent beer from a brewery that I have yet to have a bad beer from. Odell Brewery is quickly becoming, for me, the premiere craft brewer in the country. (573 characters)

This beer pours a perfect "IPA" orange with plenty of soft, foamy head. Head fades after a couple minutes, but there's always a good film of suds and plenty of sticky lacing. Good clarity, good looking IPA.

Smells softly of peaches, citrus and tropical fruit. Just a hint of pine. An enticing aroma, but one that doesn't smack you in the face.

Taste: reference the above notes on aroma. Big, juicy notes of peaches and tropical fruit, and just the slightest tinge of cool pine. All done in an expertly subtle and restrained fashion. In other words, big on modern hop flavor, small on bitterness. Lemon and lime come through in the middle and take you to the finish line.

Mouthfeel is seductive -- soft from the start and finishes like silk. The finish could linger a little longer, but I'm just nit-picking at this point.

Bottom line -- this is a great IPA that excels in the two main areas of taste and smell, but has also really nailed the finer points of mouthfeel and overall drinking experience. (1,004 characters)

Best by date on the label, 4/15/2013. Odell gives the beer a 4 month shelf life.

The beer comes in an extremely hazy dark peachy orange with a creamy white head.

The aroma has sweet tropics of mango and peaches. Orange peel, a slight grainy character, floral, and then a bit of resinous pine in the back. A bready malt.

The beer follows with a less obvious tropical fruit flavor, but still a presence of mangoes and tropical fruit that is emphasized by a hint of a caramel sweetness. There’s a slight cereal grainy flavor that almost makes the beer taste like a pale ale. There’s grapefruit peel and floral lavender quality towards the end, along with lots of green grass. The beer is medium bitter throughout and then moves onto slight pine, grapefruit pith, and floral. A good amount of drying as well, which makes you want to dig in for more.

In general, the beer is the style I prefer, tropical, hop juice quality with a light malt body. The beer is a bit under 3 months old. In the end though, it has wonderful qualities, but lacks a final punch of hops for the beer to really be where I want it. (1,110 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a Stone IPA glass. The beer is a hazy, coppery gold color with a nice 3 fingers of persistent white head. Nice dank hoppy aroma. Cut grass, hay, fresh linen, and lemon rind.

Light-medium body with a balanced flavor and a good, firm feel. There are some cereal-like grainy notes up front and herbal, somewhat peaty hop notes at mid-palate. Soft, slightly dry finish with a hint of gooseberry sweetness.

This is an old-school IPA. The focus is on balance. It has a biscuity malt backbone and a pleasant, herbal, tea-like hop character. Recommended. (574 characters)

Best by 5/6/14 batch... normally do not do this for a off batch, but since this happened with Myrcenary and now this and they never return my email or calls here goes.

Smell is biscuit malt with only slight citrus and tropical notes, taste is the same.

I know they are brewing on a new system but they need to get there shit together and stop sending out these mediocre batches....

Pours a very pretty orange, slight haze, finger if head, nice lacing

Smell is very tropical and juicy, tangerine, pineapple, grapeftuit, orange, pine sap, earthy hop, really fresh smelling

Taste is juicy, orange, tangerine, mango, pine, spruce, sweet malt base, bitter grapefruit, pineapple

moutheel is medium with medium high carbonation, dry on the finish but not as much as some

this has quickly become my second favorite IPA after Two Hearted, I love the full range of hop flavor, If you are looking for a perfect IPA this one is very hard to beat! (964 characters)
