My first Odell offering care of mothman, thanks Ben! What a spiffy brown bottle with raised up (hop?) leafs around the base of the bottle neck. No indication of a bottle date to be found on the glass or label.

Poured into a Sam Adam's sensory glass, this brew appears a perfectly polished and clear golden orange color with 2 fingers of fluffy lightly yellowish stained head. Solid powers of retension are displayed with a rising cylindar vortex of carbonation from the circle engraving on the bottom of the glass. As the head slowly receeds, it sticks in leggy patches about the glass.

The aroma of this brew is a bright hoppy citrus character reminescent of grapefruit mixed with a slight herbal touch. Also quite floral and just all around sweet smelling with an indication of a fresh grainy malt backing. This is a really impressive smelling IPA that I am enjoying before even taking my first sip.

Taking a sip, this brew is lightly sweet upfront with a flavor of bready malt that is intertwined with a citrusy sweet flavor of hops before a bit of herbal bitterness kicks in. Lingering aftertaste of fresh grainy malt and lightly bitter herbal hops that taste a bit like grapefruit rind left in the mouth. Only in the aftertaste is the 7% abv starting to reveal itself with a flavor that meshes really well with the hops and starts to warm the back of the throat.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a modestly high level of carbonation that is prickly and lively on the tongue which makes it easy to go back for more. Super drinkable and a very well balanced ipa that could get me into trouble if I had more. If you can, you gotta seek this one out.

From the label: "Ready to buck convention? We took the traditional IPA, originally shipped from England to India in the 1700s, and made it bolder and more flavorful - American style. We've added new varieties of highly aromatic American hops to create a distinctive bitterness profile and an incredible hop character. Hop on, hold tight, and enjoy the ride!"

I went with a slow, gentle pour and as such, I did not get more than wisps for head. Color was a deep amber with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! Nose was pine forest hoppy with caramel undertones. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full with a burst of hops on the tongue. Like McDonald's, I'm lovin' it! Finish was nicely hoppy and definitely the sort of thing that led to my hops jones in the first place. Seek this out.

12 ounce bottle, has some numbers stamped onto the label, but no clue how to figure out there meaning. Pours clear, typical lighter amber, with bubbles rising to the top and capped with a lovely, frothy just off white head, tha leaves great streaks and wildly patterened lace. NIce looking beer. The nose is equally exemplary, with fresh hop notessticking out so that even my low skilled sniffer can revel in the freshness. I get notes of fresh fruits, apricots and perhaps mangoes as another reviewer mentioned. Plenty of more smooth and tasty hop notes, citrus and grainy goodness. High quality, complex and thoroughly enjoyable Colorado IPA, seek it out and enjoy!

Really nice IPA, and I love the label! Thanks very much to RedHaze for the chaance to try this beer. Pours golden with a short head and some spotty lacing. Smells of citrusy hops, some light graininess, and with some creamy notes with a touch of sweetness from the malt. The taste is solid. Nice citrusy flavor balanced perfectly by some sweet malt. Simple and delicious. If I were local, this would be my every day IPA. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy and this one is a pleasure to drink.

Poured into New Belgium Globe Glass

Pours a 1 finger pillow top head, slightly off white. Good retention and lacing. Color is a golden orange sunset.

Aroma is of honey and earthy, musky hops, and bready malts.

Taste is pretty good. Very hoppy. The hops are very earthy. Honey flavors and citrus notes are also present. Very zesty taste.

Mouthfeel is very bitter. It seems to be very cold on the mouth, but it was a good thing. It is as if you are drinking ice water on a 100 degree weather day. It leaves a very clean aftertaste for an IPA.

Overall, this is a solid IPA and I wish I would have gotten more of this. It has a great hop flavor and a very clean aftertaste. I definitely think it rates up to two-hearted.

Had a bottle after dinner. It poured clear amber with a tall white head and a bit of lacing. This is one fine IPA. Like my favorites in the style, it picks a few big bold notes to build the character around instead having a big blend. Here I'm hit with a resinous floral perfume and then a candied grapefruit aroma. Both of these carry over into the flavor, making a bitter beer that has a great mix of clean citrus fruit and earthy hop spice. It's a delicious contrast. The beer is a bit strong for my liking, but damn it's tasty.

Poured a pale golden color and cloudy at that. Very small whitehead. Smells wonderful. Pine, citrus, flower and hints of malt. Taste is smooth, bitey, flavorful. Very solid IPA, not over-hopped, just right. Citrus and green pine mix well. Makes for good drinking. Could used a bit more crispness at the end. Malt comes back toward the finish. Very solid IPA!

Review from notes 2/6/11. Thanks to forgetfu for this one!

A: Pours a clear golden color with a solid one finger head. Nice retention and lacing.

S: Nice clean aroma, very grassy and citric. Also some hints of pine.

T: Similar to the aroma with the grassiness. There is some light citrus (orange peel) and a candy sweet finish.

M/D: Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Very easy drinking, a solid example of the style. The 7% is hidden very well.

On-tap at Odell itself, on to the beer:

This IPA owns an orange color wit hues of yellow at parts of the beer. Head retention is very good and it leaves a lot of creamy lace around the glass. With an aroma of pleasant herbal hops, you know this is an IPA. Bready malts attempt to balance the nose, but this remains a hop forward nose.Taste starts off with a crackery note, then a blast of hops brings down to door. Tea, pine, and lemon are brought forth. This is a hophead's beer, no question abiout that. It's medium bodied, and just fun to drink. A great start to the Odell tap room.

Thanks to afdempse for hooking me up with one of my favorite IPAs.

A: Golden yellow, clear, very effervescent. There is a nice fluffy head that leaves huge amounts of lacing caked throughout the glass.

S: Floral, citrus, fresh garden.

T: Now this is what a "balanced" IPA is supposed to taste like. Grapefruit and citrus flavors perched atop a substantial malt bill. This beer is fantastic!

M: ABV hidden well. Bitter, dry finish.

D: An awesome beer. I wish I could get it here. I would drink this on a regular basis.

Thanks to mmtmatrix for this twelve oz. bottle.

A: The IPA pours with a pale amber color, a bright sun-like color when light is focused on it. The ale is brilliantly clear with no sign of any imperfection. A touch of head laced around the mouth of the glass before disappearing.

S: The nose is a blast of citrus aroma, practically dripping with hop juices. The aromas are so strong and concentrated that it is easy to forget that this is an IPA without the big D.

T: The mouth retains the piquant hop aromas, flicking their hop-devilish flames on the tastebuds. Herbs and grassy flavors add a natural floral taste to the body, creating a green onion-like spiciness. Citrusy grapefruit and oily pine flavors become apparent mid-sip, replacing the floral herbs. Malts know their place and keep a caramel flavor subtly in the background. The one drawback is that alcohol is reasonably warm on the tongue, making itself known throughout the sip.

M: The hoppiness is intense from the first sip to the last. The array of floral, fruit and herbal hop flavors will keep you coming back.

D: The hop bitterness may overpower the tastebuds quickly, so a bottle or two will be enough.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Good till Nov 2 2011 off we go.

A great lemon shining body and slightly cloudy is poured with a very uniform solid head that doesn't even budge. Body is a bit hazy and motionless, but it just shines. Cap is thick and white perhaps a good solid two fingers of goodness, with whipped cream clumpiness. Very impressive.

Lots of citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. Grapefruit, and fuzzy peach and apricot. Flesh ripping fruit and juicy. Great nose on this.

Taste is a solid balance hop profile, but much of the citrus gets downplayed it seems on the mid palate. Lime astringency and a great fruity peach and grapefruit finish though. A lingering after finish of almost pepper like heat as well which is interesting.

Overall an impressive IPA I am not so sure I am drawn to it but it is a very good beer for sure. In a strange way it sort of reminds me of Pliny...

A solid IPA, finally having it on tap.

Orangy color, more golden though. Bright. Nice white foamy cap, great lacing all the way through.

Aroma is subdued a bit, I'm betting b/c of the temperature at serving. usuals are there though. Citrus and some caramel. Light breadiness. Pine needles on the end

As with the bottle, this is a well balanced IPA. Not a hop head's dream, but the hops ain't shy. Citrus, zest, pine and bread. Good bite to it. Nice and bold.

Thanks goes out to jhammerly and Bitterbill for this brew.

Pours a nice slighlty cloudy golden orange color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger plus creamy off-white head, tons of nice sticky lacing to follow. The nose is hoppy, citrusy, piney, and some caramel. The taste is very hoppy, nice grapefruit flavor, and a little bit of pines to throw in, also some caramel. The finish is slightly bitter and dry. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is a fine example of a IPA, way to go Odell, highly recommended.

On tap at Stub and Herb's the other day. This was one of the better IPA's I sampled during my brief stay in the twin cities.

The beer pours an impressive IPA orange amber color with impressive, pillowy head retention and considerable sticky lacing. The nose is likewise impressive, showcasing considerable orange citrus and pine. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, but the alcohol level in this beer seemed to impart an almost thick tasting texture that I really liked. Also, this beer delivers plenty of flavor in a dry, very west coast in style of IPA. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a long, citrus, bitter finish. Drinkabilty is quite good, with the alcohol very well integrated into the flavor profile... I could easily pound down several of these at a sitting.

A very well crafted IPA...

12oz bottle obtained via SS09 from vasdef42. Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" off-white head above the clear golden amber brew. Head recedes gradually, with stocky sheeting lace. Aroma is dominated by pungeant fresh hops, green and piney. Taste starts moderately sweet, goes piney bitter in the middle, and carries through the close to the aftertaste. Tons of hop flavor, not total bitter face. Mouthfeel is very soft and smooth, and drinkability is awesome. Get you some.

12oz bottle into my Sam Adams glass. It poured amber in color with a full, frothy, white head filling the top inch of the glass. The head faded to a thin layer, but left some great lacing as I drank it. pretty nice looking beer of the style. Very nice looking beer of the style.

The aroma has a very nice and juicy hop profile to it. Mango, peach and pineapple all seem to come out in it. Just a little grapefruit like bitterness. Overall a excellent aroma, I can tell already this beer is going to fit my tastes very well.

The taste has a nice tropical fruit like hoppiness to it as well. I get more of the pineapple and mango to it up front with some bitter citrus rind like flavors coming out in the finish. Very nice hoppy flavor to it.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall I thought it was an excellent beer. I really love the tropical, fruity, juicy type hoppy flavors and this one brought those flavors out very nicely. They definitely nailed my personal tastes in IPA's on this one. Loved it.
