a - poured a one finger thick creamy, eggshell-colored head into a snifter that left great lacing throughout. the body was a bright amber color.
s - big citrus aromas of grapefruit and orange.
t - piney and herbal hops with more of a citrus finish. there was a nice malt balance here too.
m - medium and creamy. lip smacking-good.
o - one of the best AIPAs i've ever had, very drinkable too.

A: Red-gold with a big white head.

S: Glorious - fresh papaya, mango and grapefruit.

T: Somehow the taste just doesn't live up to that tropical smell - some pine and citrus comes through, finishing with a slightly off-putting mineral taste.

M: Slightly thin, with less carbonation than usual for an IPA.

I'm surprised by the rave reviews on here - this seemed to me to be a fairly standard IPA. Admittedly, it could be that the hops have faded across the Atlantic - when I tried their 90 shilling ale it had a similar, unappealling mineral taste and possibly in both cases this was simply due to age.

Glass: Tulip

Odell has a classic American IPA with their attempt at the style, focusing on some bright citrus scents and flavors along with a fairly serious bitterness and a sweetish pale-amber malt backbone that's strong enough to be noticed, but lets the hops do most of the talking. This is a really satisfying beer at any time of the year, and an easy go-to if available.

Pours a substantial, 2cm tall head of off-white to light beige bubbles, which are very small in size, creating a frothy and even somewhat meringue-like head. Retention is about average, lasting a minute or so as it descends to a heavy cap atop the beer. Lacing is excellent, heavily sticking to the sides of the glass throughout the entire bout, arranged in a wide variety of sheets and interesting patterns. Body is a dark orange-copper color, with light bringing out brighter golden-orange hues. Vigorous carbonation is visible through the hazy, 30-50% opaque body.

The beer is characterized by its clean, bright citrus scents: this is not as dank with hop aroma as I've found (and enjoyed) Ballast Point to be, but equally complex with its specificity. Primary scents of orange peel, tangerine, mango, grapefruit and some pineapple, along with just a touch of pine resin.

Front of palate is tropical fruit juice (pineapple, orange, mango, guava) with a bit of a light malt base sweetening it up. Mid-palate is fruity, with citrus and tropical fruits (orange peel, tangerine, mango, grapefruit, guava), mild pine resin, and substantial bitterness. Back of palate picks up some light toffee-like maltiness along with continued bright fruits, substantial bitterness, and a flash of ethanol. Aftertaste is of lingering bitterness and slight orange, tangerine, and grapefruit with a slight wheat bread flavor in the background.

Beer is medium to medium-heavy in body, with carbonation levels of mid-intensity. The result is a crisp mouthfeel that foams up slightly on the palate, creating a smooth overall feel. Closes quite dry and astringent, with little stickiness lingering across the palate. I do not detect any ethanol on the throat or in the nostrils.
