Bottle poured into pint.

Appearance: Very clear rich amber/honey hue. Offwhite pitted head.

Smell: Deep woody smell with sweet alcoholic tones and a bit of interesting roastiness.

Taste/Mouthfeel: A little light on the hops. Could be mistaken for a pale ale with a hop kick and not an IPA. Hops with roasty aftertaste. The roasty kick is more present than the hops, to me. The beer feels a little too watery, which contributes to its pale ale vibe. Would be an excellent beer to ease someone away from the world of pale ales diplomatically.

Drinkability: Would be very drinkable, but doesn't fit my bill for a well-rounded IPA.

Bottle. Pours a lighted amber red color with a slight white head that slowly goes down to form a little collar. The aroma I get from this is of hops with a slight tinge of something metallic. Slight bitterness up front balanced with the malt. Lingering bitterness. Not a stand out IPA but not bad either.

12 oz. bottle.

Tasted 4 Jul 2008.

Head is medium sized, white, almost no carbonation. Clear dark straw color. Strong floral hop scent, citrusy. Starts moderately sweet but quickly turns bitter. Moderate alcohol. Light body. Strong lingering bitter finish. Slightly astringent off flavor in aftertaste detracts.

Appearance: amber in color, small head, clear, medium carbonation

Smell: toasted malt and citrusy hops

Taste: citrusy soapy hops with some faint malt

Mouthfeel: smooth, slow start with a sharp bitter finish, medium bodied

Drinkability: This is an average IPA to me. Not bad, but I could just as easily pass. The high ABV is not noticable.

In a trade with Mulder1010. Thanks!

From a bottle into a snifter.

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, off-white head with great retention. Tangerine orange but more amber when held to the light. Perfectly clear with zero carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a good wisp and clings to the sides. Slight wisp remains until the end and leaves some scattered lacing down the sides.

SMELL: Pretty big nose for the style. Pale malts and some sweet melon. Lots of citrus hops, lemon and melons, with some grapefruit notes there as well. Pretty fruity. Enticing.

TASTE: Pale malts and floral hops, with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Some bitter hops at the swallow as well as some soapy notes. Mild and shorter aftertaste of bitter hops, citrus, and soap. A fan of everything here except the soapy notes.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body, medium carbonation, and semi-creamy on the palate. Goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth-coating.

OVERALL: A decent beer, but nothing overly special. Not a huge fan of the soapy hop flavors that come out in this one, but other than that, this is a solid offering. Thanks again Mulder1010.

Been on a massive IPA binge lately.

Poured aggressively into a Maudite tulip glass. Soapy/fizzy white head that fades rapidly. Not much of a head on this one, makes it more difficult to pick out the aroma; faint citrusy hops mixed with bready, biscuity malts. Some resiny hop characteristics in there as well. Flavor is well balanced; citrusy/fruity hops, toffee/caramel sweet malts. Finishes with an earthy/floral bitterness with a slight astringency. Well carbonated, but wish this one had better head retention and a bit more sudsy body. Very drinkable IPA, but falls flat compared the other IPAs I have been having lately.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: A translucent copper color with an frothy eggshell head. Decent retention and the beer leaves a sheet of lace down the side of the glass.

Smell: A candied grapefruit aroma bursts out of the bottle. Tons of hop aroma - grapefruit, some other citrus and tropical fruits with a bit of pine in the background. Some ganja as well.

Taste: Some caramel sweetness accompanies a bready malt front. The hops should clearly be the focal point of this beer, but they come up a bit short. Grapefruit, pineapple, and a bit of herbal hops are all present, but the flavor profile is a bit light.

Mouthfeel: It has a little bit of a grainy feel. Light bodied, watery even, with medium carbonation. A surprising lack of hop oil residue for an IPA.

Overall: The aroma gave me the impression this would be a delicious hop bomb, but it ended up being a little watery and light for my taste.

$10 got me a six o'bottles for this bad boy.

Clarity is impecable. World class, top class honey gold goodness. Good 1 inch of clingy foam. Looking delectable.

Smell: Ripe sweet citrus marmalade and light toasted biscuit malts with maybe a hint of lager sulfur? Chlorophyll perhaps?

Taste: This is confusing. Massively bitter, massively sweet. Balance is like a bare knuckle boxing match between a sickly sweet seedless clementine and an overly engineered bittering hop. Match is a draw. Nobody wins.

Drinkability: 1 or 2 will do just perfect. But may get old after a few.

Overall, this is an entertaining experience. However, I would prefer a little less overacting in the performance.

I really wanted to like this - especially after all the good reviews, but I didn't get nearly the taste I was hoping for. Perhaps my tastebuds have deadened. :)
Appearance and smell were top notch, but somehow it fell flat for me. I did enjoy Myrcenary and Wooden Sidecar though - will try again sometime just to double check my findings.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle served in a pint glass, reviewed live:

A - Pours a clear honey golden color with four fingers of thick, rocky beige head. Retention is incredible, especially at 7%, and the head leaves sticky lacing as it recedes. Inviting.

S - Pleasant, fresh floral and grassy hops. Freshly grated lemon and orange zest. Crystal and caramel malts balance the hops nicely. It's a bit restrained but refreshing and inviting. Simple (might not be a bad thing).

T - All the hops found on the nose are present, but they're a little more muted than I'd like. The hops are certainly fresh. The malts are a little more dominate than they ought to be, but it somehow remains well balanced. Bitter on the finish. A bit too simple.

M - Too thick. Well carbonated and a bit oily.

D - It's incredibly drinkable at 7% and a well built and balanced IPA. Would be a great intro to IPA's for a novice, but probably won't satisfy the hopheads out there. A fine offering from Odell, but it lacks the depth that could make it truly great.

Acquired via trade from Wasatch, so a big “Thank you” goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light amber color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of fruity citrus, caramelized malts and a decent amount of hops.

T: The taste starts with a combination of pale hops bitterness and citrus & caramel sweetness. In most beers American IPA’s that I’ve had the latter fades before the former, but in this case it’s the other way around. There’s a good malt character that doesn’t make its presence known right away. The after-taste is sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a decent even if it may not be the absolute best IPA that I’ve had. I could drink a few of them but it wouldn’t be my first choice.
