On Draft at The Yard House, Scottsdale, AZ.

This came out with a decent finger's worth of white head still sitting on a lightish amber colored beer. Very clear.

Nice floral and citrus hop aroma. Not much more to say about it, though it does have some depth as well. Great up-front hop flavor. Grapefruit and orange blossom. Very bright flavor, not much noticeable malt but I wasn't looking for balance anyway. Pleasantly bitter finish.

Nice feel, some carbonation burn and very drinkable.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a nice sized white head. Aroma is very piney with some citrus.

Taste is opposite of the aroma. The fruitty citrus comes to the front with the pine more towards the background. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Drinkability is great despite the 7% abv. A very good IPA.

got this at pi in st.louis and they had this on tap, I've never even heard of this brewery so I'm always eager to try something new. has a nice light amber color to it and it laces real well, smell I very good, floral hops are the moat prevelant, has a tiny malt kick to it. taste is very good, an exceptional ipa, a perfect balance of hops and enoug malt to keep it level, reccomended

Appearance: amber in color, small head, clear, medium carbonation

Smell: toasted malt and citrusy hops

Taste: citrusy soapy hops with some faint malt

Mouthfeel: smooth, slow start with a sharp bitter finish, medium bodied

Drinkability: This is an average IPA to me. Not bad, but I could just as easily pass. The high ABV is not noticable.

A - Bright medium-golden hue; clear; cumulus off-white head leaves sticky, thick lacing

S - Absolutely wonderful nose; like a sea breeze of refreshing, light, fruity, juicy, citrus hop scent; the smell erupts from the head and zings the nostrils

T - Gorgeous smell continues onto the palate: fresh, juicy rush of citrus/fruity hops and bright bitterness; delicious hop bouquet on the lighter, brighter and robust citrus side; super fresh and borderline hop bomb taste; slightly sweet undercurrent provides great balance; beautiful, though muted, malt tones; alcohol is never present

M - Slightly cloying hop bitterness last on the tongue, though dry; carbonation is noticeable and aids the hops' mission on the tongue; nice medium body that is filtered just right

D - The big, compelling, inviting hop flavor never gets too bitter or off-putting, making this one of the more drinkable IPAs I've ever tasted -- fresh from the brewery to the growler down my gullet. YUM ;)

Light orange color with a big big white fluffy head. Smells of hops and pine. Tastes just like an IPA should: citrus, mainly grapefruit rind, strong bitterness. Mouthfeel was right on the money--good carbonation tingle with a smooth velvety finish. Drinkable as hell. First rate.

I have been drinking this one from a six pack and it is only barely ok, maybe skunked a little or not as fresh as it should be.
Anyway on tap in Fort Collins saved this day.
this ipa is a nice light amber with light lacing and a sheet of barely off-white head that stays the whole way down.
the smell tells very well of the taste with citrusy to pin hops, like if clementines could grow on a baby pine tree. all around the sides of this dainty tree is light caramel malt to keep the tree standing and on balance. there is just a hint of alcohol in the smell, which is not a bad thing with 7%abv

similar the taste is big rather full with these hops caramel malt. the carbonation is just right to make it crisp clean and with a bit of silk.

way too drinkable for the quality of taste and abv. MUCH better on tap, all afternoon drinkable.

Well, I was very pleased to be able to enjoy several Odell Ipa's last night. The beer was better than my team's performance. Celts, Bruins & Sox all lose.

Excellent IPA.

Came with a finger plus of pillowy egg shell white head. This lasted a short time and faded back into the beer. The color was a bright orange/amber color with excellent clarity. Nice color for this beer, really bright. Excellent rings of lacing cling to the inside of the glass.

Aroma was wonderful, bright, fresh, fruity and big citrus. Lots of grapefruit notes. Very floral..

Wow, this is just a wonderful IPA. Despite the aggressive hop nature there is a great deal of balance here. The grapefruit notes continue, along with some other fruit notes. Nice malt tones that are just slightly sweet and a touch of light caramel. More of the flavor is bread like and specifically a crispy crusted bread. The lingering hop bitterness is just awesome and so damn fresh & perfume like.

Bright and refreshing mouth feel, medium bodied with an assertive carbonation level. Really makes the aroma and hop notes pop.

Wonderfully drinkable.

This is an excellent IPA and shoots to near the top of my IPA list.

I'll be back to have more of these the next time I'm in Colorado.

poured from a tap it came out with an amber-orange hue and a creamy looking white head.

immediate hop spice hits the nose. refreshing pine and clean citrus combine to make it work.

taste was a refreshing hop with pine and citrus character. a hint of malt brings the balance together well. also detect a slight creaminess in the flavor.

mouthfeel is creamy and refreshing. definetly a drinkable beer.

Odell is always solid and this is a great IPA. Having it bottled is good but there is something a little extra on tap. Great hoppiness and a full body without a lingering after taste make this a top 10 beer, especially on the IPA list. A light fruity flavor adds to the complexity.

on tap at papago...

pours a hazy pale copper color with a soft soap foam-like head. immense amounts of foam rings and webby lace is almost unreal.

the aroma is very earthy... almost like wood with notes of grapefruit, leafy hops, pine and caramel maltiness.

malt sweetness is a touch high for me but the level of bitterness and it's parching qualities keep me coming back. the flavor reminds me of sweetened yellow grapefruit juice (the real thing not the canned crap)... along with a solid malt backbone, orange pith and peel and some pine-like leafy green hops.

the body is medium but the carbonation is very soft which makes it really creamy on the tongue.

this is a great food friendly beer that can be consumed all night! 7/4/7/4/16/3.8

Luckily The Palm Restaurant (Denver), where we watched the Superbowl, had a couple gems on their draft list. Enjoyed with steak dinner.
Clear, golden orange with a short white head. Good retention and thin lace, much better looking than the Coors Light draft everyone else was drinking.
Lots of hoppy aromas, piney, tangy grapefruit. The taste was just as bold, with similar flavors of grapefruit and piney resin. Very well balanced with enough malty, caramel sweetness to hold up to the hop kick. Good body, full flavor, thick enough mouthfeel to cut through the richness of my meal. Slightly dry finish keeps palate clean and asking for more. A great IPA.

Pours amber with shades of red, a little more darker than most IPA's, nice creamy white head with good CO2. Nice Belgian lacing. Aroma is strong and fresh with hops but not overpowering like some west coast IPA's. Lot's of citrus. Taste is also very good, more malt than west coast IPA's but with a distinct bitterness that was well done. A nice biscuity flavor as well with a dryness in the finish.

Golden-orange, sunset sort of coloring.

Head is orange-tinted, small-bubbled, tight, and tall.

Lacing is firm and sticky, and there's quite a lot.

Aroma is very fruity, not just citric but tropical. There's a resinous edge, but more grapefruit than pine. Apricot and mango.

Smooth and easy up front, quite herbal and a little sweet. And then the hops really hit hard - sort of the middle-back of the flavor. Two tons of grapefruit come crashing down, along with orange and lemon zest. Shit-ton of hops. Great.

Malts are pale and caramel; sort of a sports bra to keep the hops from bouncing out of control.

Alcohol is present with a little prick at the finish, but nothing damning about that. Just a fact.

Finish is otherwise quite bitter, a bit dry, but very tasty.

Moderately full in the mouth - not overly chewy, but not as thin as a brew with this much in the hops department could be. Nicely carbonated.

Heavy handed hops are quite delicious but not for everyone. Unbalanced for sure.

Outstanding IPA.
Big flowery resinous nose.
Supreme balance, with a large malt backbone that supports the hop build nicely.
Grapefruit rinds, orange peel, fragrant and spicy florals, and sappy pine.
Very tasty and quite an easy drinker, this beer is awesome from the bottle as well as on tap.
My first beer I tried on my trip to Colorado, and it was definitely a great start.
*cheers*

GABF Weekend '08

I'm very impressed with this beer, as I was their porter. Balance being the key, this beer strikes a major mark with a very well attenuated malty character with low lying sweetness (caramel and breadiness), which allows the hops to shine. An agressive hop blend of grapefruit, orange rind, pine, and a boquet of flowery, perfumy hops particularly in the nose. No apparent harshness or agression in the mouthfeel despite such boldness in the taste (Two Hearted Ale does this as well), allowing the beer to be supremely drinkable. Finishes with a crisp, cracker-like dryness and a riding orange rind note. I'm not sure if IPA's get any better.

I feel like a little school boy getting all psyched up for recess every time I head out to Odell's in anticipation for this incredible IPA on nitro. Pours an unmistakable light copper color. A regular non-nitro head of about one finger that doesn't hang around too long. Cascade hops are the first thing you recognize right away. But it doesn't end there. You get all the obvious citrus, floral, grapefruit, juniper notes but also about three or four other hop scents. I wish my IPA t-shirt was scratch and sniff. The taste experience can best be described as transitional. It starts out very citrusy and sweet but slowly progresses into that great hoppy delight that you would expect from a great IPA. It hangs out on the back of your tongue just long enough to head back up to the bar and order yourself another. This beer is in my top five IPAs.

Usually I can say, this is a East or West coast IPA. Not with this one. To start, the pour is a clear amber color with a light golden hue throughout. A nice off white head with good retention and ok lacing.

The nose is unique as the hops are pleasant and not over the top, but still assertive. A great mix of floral, earthy, citrus and a hint of pine. Some grapefruit and orange and a hint of pineapple on the backend. There is a subtle but good malt backing. Some hints of maltiness and a touch of caramel and a feint hint of honey as well.

The taste is very well balanced. The malt is blended nicely with the hops. The malt starts with a malty sweet taste up front but is quickly balanced with a light bitterness that is a bit subtle but still detectable. Finishing hops really come out with a nice citrus & floral mix. A mix of grapefruit, orange and herbal/floral hop is assertive but not over the top. Very clean yeast with no off flavors.

The body is moderate and easy drinking. Carbonation is light but ok. Overall this is a great example of an IPA and one that has won multiple awards. Great balance, with an assertive hop characteristic that isn't a punch in the face.

Growler purchased at the brewery tap house 6/20/08.

Poured into standard pint glass.

Wow. I love the look and smell of this one. Great citrus fruity hop aroma, with a clear amber color. You get hit with the hops right up front on first taste, but the malt background is solid enough to hold your interest beyond the first kick of the hop. Surprisingly clean on the finish after all the bitterness up front.

Just a damn solid IPA from a little known, and likely underappreciated, Colorado brewery.

pours a hazy orange with a super creamy head that rests atop the brew almost the whole time. smells beautifully of grapefruit spice and citrus shine. i could sit and sniff this brew for hours. the taste is major grapefruit spice, sticky bitterness, and a nice sweetness to accompany the spice. tastes like a ruby red grapefruit, i love it. the nitro really makes the brew creamy and smooth, but it still sticks so nice to the roof of the mouth. the hop character has definite layers and character, with a crisp finish. i could drink more than several of these a day. wasnt sure they could improve this IPA, then Odell juiced it with nitro. Tasty.

Picked up a growler of IPA today along with some birthday gifts for friends.

Poured a redish golden color with great clarity but below-average head and retention.

Aroma is decent but not the best. I look for fresh whole hop hoppiness in an IPA... it's clean but not fresh.

The flavor is there. Lots of hop bitterness but a fair trade-off with ample malt. I give it a 4/5.

Mouthfeel is what I expect from an IPA in that it has a slightly bitter burn but not at all unpleasant. Just the right amount of carbonation.

Overall, I enjoy this beer but it's not one of Odell's best. Certainly better than the overwhelming Double IPA but I definately prefer their imperial stout, double pils, and special red. Can't wait for that red!

Golden in color with a bright white half inch head. Flowery in odor with a noticible hops aroma. Taste is of an incredibly balanced yet perky IPA. Odell's built upon their great array of standard beers by producing this fine beer. A drinkable IPA that doesn't abuse the taste buds, but tickles then so they ask for more. No surprise that it brought home a Gold.
