Bottle reads 4/26/11B

A= The pour is a beautiful deep amber color that is completely translucent. The head is rather small with a mixture of large soapy bubbles and tiny bubbles holding some steady retention and lacing.

S= The smell is a great combination of caramelly malts and spicy hops. It sort of reminds me of Summits extra pale ale if they used more of a west coast hop variety. The malt bill must be similar. The hops are more fruity and a little piney.

T= Excellent taste. Just what I was hoping for actually. A nice combination of sweet caramel malt and nice spicy hops. While most hoppy reds really blur the line between red and IPA this is a quality balance between the more malty reds and the super hoppy reds. Really nice biscuit character hidden a little deeper in there. Excellent beer.

M= Nice smooth carbonation that doesn't get out of hand.

D= Another home run from Odells. They may be becoming one of my favorite breweries quickly. These guys do awesome work. Worth checking out. I went into the liquor store today hoping to just find something drinkable and I got it. Awesome beer!

Poured from a twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass.

The pour produced a lot more head than I was expecting, almost too much, but it was still a good-looking, frothy head that formed into a plateaued peak. The head was persistent and chewy in appearance. A copper red liquid with billowing carbonation and a clean, filtered look beneath the head looked delicious. Add to this the semi-opaque appearance and orange hues that add some intrigue.

This beer's smell will take you to paradise. Very tropical and fruity. I get citrusy and piney hops, sweet tropical fruit and bread. The beer is very pungent and aromatic and these notes carry on to the flavor. The palate gets sweet, citrus and bread initially, some pineapple, orange and grapefruit then follow. The beer then finishes sharp, piney and bitter.

This beer is very spring-like, even if it was released while we're still in the clutches of winter. It's light, effervescent and easy-drinking. Starting sweet the beer becomes dry and then finishes bitter. It's distinct from most reds and IPAs in that it's not as creamy and malty and much easier to throw back.

It's a pleasant drink and one I could drink far into the summer. I could easily finish a six pack on my own.

Appearance - Pours copper red with a khaki finger width head. Fair retention, breaking down to a thin, consistent layer of surface suds.

Smell - Pineapple aroma permeates the nostrils like sweat through the skin of a fat man in the desert.

Taste - Pineapple is less on the tongue than what shows through the nose, but is still the most prominent flavor. There to meet it are notes of orange and caramel. Finish is bittersweet and all around awesome.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light, silky texture. Smooth, easy drinker.

Overall - Though a bit more tropical with the hop profile, this is quite remeniscent of Deschutes' Red Chair. This is a good thing. Quite delicious. I can only hope California starts getting Odell distribution.

Clear ruby red body with a thick off white/lightest khaki head.

Caramel malt lends some nice sweetness to the aroma that is balanced out with orange and pine hops.

Pine, orange, grapefruit, bread, and caramel on the flavor.

Medium body, carbonation and bitterness makes for an easy drinker.

Super solid hoppy red.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

A nice amber red color holds a cream colored head that retains well and leaves good lacing. The nose is hit with woody spices, earth notes, and hops. The beer tastes earthy and woody up front. Some subtle toffee sweetness mingles in before a citric, bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is medium in weight. Overall, I'm overwhelmed with the hops and lack of malty caramel tones.

Pours a dark ruby with a thumbs width beige head. Nice lacing. Wow... what a wonderful wonderful aroma. Sweet and hoppy and incredibly balanced between the two. Nectarine, grapefruit, a little pine. I could just sit and sniff this all night I think. Flavor is just as good. The grapefruit and pine seem to hit you in the forefront but its balanced extremely well by the malt backbone which provides some delicious toasty graininess and caramel sweetness, with a touch of some berry in there. A nice silky mouthfeel with an appropriate level of activity from the carbonation. Medium bodied. Overall, my favorite red ale. Love the marriage between malt and hops in this one. Odell with a grand slam.

While red ales tend to be a dime a dozen, this one is carrying on the lineage of the Odell ESR, one of the best big read brews of all time.
Pours a cherrywood color that looks brown initially, but reveals lots of red highlights in the light. An eggshell foam cap sticks to the walls of the glass and leaves a massive trail as you work your way down.
Huge bitter, juicy hops hit your nose immediately...but then give way to a bit of bready character.
The palate starts off with a tiny bit of sweetness followed by an assault of American "C" hops. Piney and grapefruity flavors cross, with a little caramel sweetness creeping in here and there, only to finish with more hop character. A blind tasting might tell you this is an IPA, but the slight caramel hints take this to a slightly different places.
Mouthfeel serves the purpose of keeping tons of big hop oil flavors from making things too slick or too foamy on the other side of the coin.
While the size/potency of a typical IPA, I've noticed that this is slightly more quaffable for me, and the flavor profile doesn't get old. When paired with food, it helps to bring out sweetness and sourness equally well.

While I still definitely prefer the old ESR, this is a solid beer that's a pretty big jump over most typical red/amber beers floating around.

Pours a clear amber color with a tight, white head that leaves big chunks of lacing.

Smells of citrus and caramel.

Tastes of a nice balance of hops and full malts. Caramel and toffee malt leads off with a nice sweetness to it. Hops come in with grapefruit and pine notes. A light bitterness, but well-balanced overall.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a good red.
