My second encounter with this beer.

Rapidly evolving nose on opening the bottle including white pepper and a husky pine. In the glass there is in an amazingly beautiful appetizing balance of strong hop, huskiness and a honey like sweetness. A one and a half inch thick head tops this beer's light orange colour.
In the mouth the carbonation never dominates but orbits around the beer periodicaly. There is agaian a huskiness and a strawlike dry bitterness from beginning to end amongst much other development. This beer lightly coats the inside of your mouth but periodically it is soft too with just a gentle touch of malt here and there.
Like their IPA, not huge, not chest beating but firm and strong with so much character and development. Another total winner from Odell.

A: Pours a pale and slightly hazed copper color. A fluffy and rocky two finger white head forms with good retention. That recedes to leave plenty of lace in rings.
S: Perfume like hops up front. Floral and grassy. Though with a bit more resinous pine. Which is never over barring. Biscuit malts with a little sweeter caramel malts as well.
T: Like the nose, floral and grassy up front. That gives way to the pine like bitterness, which again is not over barring. A bit soapy like as well. A tad more caramel malt sweetness here than the nose.
M/D: A medium body that is crisp and effervescent. Again, just a tad on the sweet side. Really enjoyable to drink. I can drink this all day.

A really good pale ale. This is Loose Leaf's bigger brother. It is a bit sweeter, with a more pronounced piny/soapy flavor, which is not a bad thing at all. I do think I like Loose Leaf just a bit more. Though this is no less of an enjoyable beer.

12 oz. bottle poured into nonic

L: pale gold ... yellow ... not much of a head, white, does stick

S: citrus, a bit bitter (grapefruit-like) with some skunk -- the bottle isn't clear, but there's clearly some skunk in this

T: citrusy, a bit sweet ... not quite a candied orange but in that direction; a ton of grain for an American IPA ... still bitter with some grapefruit. it leans all on the citrus side.

F: solid, not remarkable, plenty of carbonation despite a pretty flat pour

O: a good beer but not one of a kind -- it's got good citrus notes, and the bitter bite is there but very manageable. tastes good, and I'd have no problem drinking this all the time, but I can name 20 other American IPAs just as good or better
