750mL bottle - #5793 - into a tulip glass
Pours a murky, completely opaque shade of poop-ass brown. The body looks really, really ugly. Septic. The head, however? Fantastic. Two and a half fingers of tight, compact foam the color of a pair of Dockers pants. The lacing is textbook. If only the body of the beer were anything other than ass.
This smells a lot like a barleywine. Tons of caramel, tons of bittering hops. Appleskin. Banana. Honeysuckle. Sweet booze. This isn't complex as much as it is rote.
Toasted malt flavors meet caramel malt flavors meet bread crusts meet walnuts. TONS of maltiness. Hops are strongly felt; moreso in bitterness than anything else. A bit of banana, a bit of dried orange. A nice oaky finish. This is pretty nice, if uninspired. Unfortunately, it is a flavor profile that plenty of other beers do better.
The mouthfeel works for me. It has a nice thickness to it with a fairly substantial amount of felt carbonation. The drinkability is awful for me. I mean, it is pretty average for the style but when you consider that this beer is TWENTY SIX DOLLARS a bottle, for a bottle that Sierra Nevada Bigfoot completely outclasses - at $10 a sixpack - in a similar flavor profile.
Is this beer worth the money? Hell no. It is tasty enough; you won't hate it. But you probably won't love it, either.

Thanks to blue_bleeder for the bottle.
Appearance: Ruddy copper brownish red. Head is beige loose and bubbly. Settles to a clumpy head and collar. Sheets of sticky lacing. Decent head retention. Solid carbonation given the age.
Smell: A ton of deeply caramelized malts. A touch roasted with toffee, caramel, and some overall bready malts. A touch of earthy malts as well. Some earthy hops as well. A touch of old citrus peel. Booze, grape, apple, some vanilla. Oak is still kicking around but it's a bit faded. Oxidized. Some minor medicinal edges. Malty and super bready.
Taste: Bready malts. Caramel and toffee. A touch of molasses. Oxidation adds some minor medicinal and metallic elements. Some vanilla and a solid punch of oak. Bite of alcohol with some associated boozy heat. Hops are a bit citrusy with some old orange peel and a hint of bitterness. Chewy caramelized malts. A toasted edge with some roasted sweetness as well. Plum, cherry, fig, dark fruit.
Mouthfeel: Borderline full body. Borderline chewy. Moderate carbonation. Clean.
Overall: Froot booze.
Held up well to the age. Oxidation helps and adds depth.

Appearance: Dark amber with a ton of ruby tones - pours with a giant, light beige head - fades to a small cap, leaves some nice streaks of lacing
Smell: The aroma more or less fits the description, with amber malts, wood, and alcohol - pale, caramel, and amber malts, definitely smells like an imperial red ale - toffee, dark fruits, and a lot of sugary malts - very, very sweet - lots of oak, with some oxidation
Taste: Oak chips sprinkled with sugar and booze - big, caramelized malts, with some serious amber malt flavors - very sweet, like malt extract - toffee and some dark fruits - oxidized malts - big oak flavors, very woody, with some kind of lingering spiciness - alcohol is very prominent
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body, nice carbonation, rather syrupy, finishes kind of sticky and hot
Overall: Once again I find myself facing diabetes
I am usually a huge fan of Odell's, but I find this too sugary and too boozy. If you're looking for things to keep in your cellar, this may not make the cut.

Nov 2009 vintage. Bottle 2176. 1 pint 9.4 fl oz brown glass bottle with hood-and-wire cap (aka cage) over a branded cork served into an Odell snifter/tulip hybrid glass. 11% ABV confirmed. Label is pretty simple yet appealing. Bottle acquired as part of a vintage beer release by a local CO bottle shop in November 2012. Reviewed live. Expectations are high given the brewery, which I quite respect. Not reviewed as any particular style.
Served cold - straight from the fridge - and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: No bubble show forms as it's poured.
Pours a 2 finger wide head of nice off-white colour. Good luscious thickness and creaminess. Nice even smooth consistency. Decently soft complexion. Retention is good - about 4-5 minutes. No real lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes.
Body colour is a really dark crimson/amber of below-average vibrance. Muddled and murky. Opaque. No floating yeast particles are visible.
Overall, it doesn't look like any specific style. I do like the head, but nothing stands out as unique or special. I'm optimistic. There are no egregious flaws.
Sm: Amber malts, caramel, caramalt, toffee, Munich malts, bready malts, an oak tone (but no rich vanilla or toasty notes), and biscuit malts. Some faded floral and fruity hop character in there too. It's a biteen boozy. No real yeast character is detectable; it's quite clean. A little raisin. Brown sugar. Some dark fruit, sort of like you'd find in a dubbel or quadrupel.
I'm not finding any of the almond notes mentioned on the label.
A decent aroma of above average strength.
T: Caramel, cream, sour green apple, vague nebulous dark fruit notes, raisin, biscuit malts, amber malts, brown malts, and some oak. I don't know that age has really helped this beer or developed its notes. Not particularly well balanced. The build isn't too cohesive either, and it's certainly not a gestalt brew. Okay complexity, but little subtlety, intricacy, or nuance.
Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour.
No yeast character comes through. I do find some alcohol presence which impedes drinkability. I'm not finding the toasted almond described by the label.
My companion suggests oxidation, and I do find some light wet cardboard notes indicative of that. Also a bit of marshmallow.
I don't know that I like it. There are some elements I like (the cream, some of the malt character, and a bit of the oak).
Mf: Smooth, wet, a bit creamy, overly thick, too full-bodied, and unrefreshing. Presence on the palate is far from ideal. Suits the flavour profile okay. It's somehow still overcarbonated.
Not oily, gushed, harsh, or astringent.
Dr: I'll have some trouble finishing this, even with my companion helping me. I'm not sure age has done it well, and I wouldn't get it again based on this experience. I really wanted more from the oak. This isn't Odell's strongest work by any means. Not really worth trying. If you have it, drink it now because I can't see it improving at all. Doesn't hide its ABV well.
Drank fine from Odell glassware.
The green apple and toasted marshmallow notes are the highlight of the beer for me.
Fresh, my companion and I are betting it was a B- or a B. The more I drink it (and the more it warms), the better it gets.
