Hit the shelves this afternoon, poured from 750mL bottle to tulip the beer arrives a cloudy deep amber red with an impressive 3 finger tannish cream colored head with excellent retention and some lacing throuoit. The nose is caramel sweet with. Nice malt base, hints of wild yeast, apples, oak and grapes. The flavor is more pronounced and intense than the nose: starts off crisp with a sweet malt caramel flavored base, as the sharp entrance fades the favors develope: apples, pear, mildly bitter, tones if funk and sour though not a lot. The flavor lasts on the tongue for a very long time with a gently fruit sweetness combined with a lingering funk. Medium bodied and well carbonated. Overall I entered this not knowing what to expect, thoroughly enjoyable. I will be purchasing another bottle or three.

750ml bottle. Pours a deep crimson red with a huge rocky off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is a bit subdued - wood and vanilla with some sweet tart fruits. Some brett comes out as it warms.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts and some bretty tart fruits and floral notes. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I like it. Similar to Hiveranno but not as good.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Crimson Ale is a good term, although it has more orange than I would expect with that label. Seriously massive light tan head that is very foamy, thick and clingy. Just gorgeous.

Smell: Caramel, cherry, apple, some other fruits. Light vinegar.

Taste: Immendiately get hit with tart apple and vinegar, but then it turns more sweet, with caramel, oak, cherry and general fruitiness. The finish is once again tart, but with an unfortunate phenolic character of plastic and band-aids (not the good Belgiany phenolic).

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, lightly drying and tart finish, as expected.

Overall: Damn plastic aftertaste! This could have been great, instead it is good. Tastes like this would have been an Oak Aged Double Irish Red before it was infected.

Seems like Odell is hit or miss with Wilds. Saboteur, Friek and especially DeConstruction are hits, while this, Avant Peche and (from what I heard) Hiveranno are near misses. Still, nice to see Odell continuing to experiment.

Poured from the bomber into a sifter glass

Appearance - dark rich crimson color. Lots and lots of carbonation give this a great head with a great lacing.

Smell - quite tart up from followed by a rich malty vanilla smell. I also get woody earth tones

Taste - tart right out of the gates, but then really an off taste to follow it up. Tastes like burnt wood at the very end.

Feel - Very very carbonated and that off taste does not leave your mouth.

Overall - I had this beer right when it first came out, before I was on BA, and remember it quite different. The yeasts in this guy sure did a number to the beer and it wasn't something I enjoyed.

Served in a snifter, cold on-tap at Freshcraft in Denver.

Aroma is sweet, fruity, and funky in equal measures.

Flavor is similar in ways to am old ale with dark fruits, vanilla, and booze. It has a great oak-aged character that brings that vanilla and then the wild yeast adds a nice slightly sour funk. More cherries and some tropical fruit comes through here too.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Despite the variety of flavors, its all really well balanced.

Overall another great wild ale from Odell. Not hugely sour but perfectly balanced.

Opens with a super serious Pop! Pours an effervescent auburn with 4 fingers of tan head. Superior lacing & head retention

S: Woody & tart scents

T: Tartness, sour strawberry tanins & some green apple up front. Balsamic vinegar notes mix with apricot as this warms, along with some grassy & berry flavors & just a bit of caramel sweetness. Finishes tart with grassy & woody bitterness balancing out some Winesap apple sweetness, along just a little vanilla & caramel

MF: Medium bodied slightly syruppy, carbonation is very low indeed, some stickyness as well, carbonation picks up as this warms

A pretty good wild ale, may note be intense enough for sour fanatics, but works well for me, would go great with all sorts of food (fish, cheese & fruit come to mind off the top of my head)

A cloudy reddish brown beer with a very small mocha head that left only traces of lacing. I could smell malt and wheat. Great malty front with hints of plum and cherry, carbination level was perfect and refreshing. No alcohol bite at all. I could have drank this beer all day- if it were not for the 9.1ABV and $5.50 cost of the 8 oz pour. I really enjoyed this beer.

Pours a nice ruby/mahogany, thin lines of beading below a thick dollop of off white head. Average lacing.

Smells tasty. Fresh caramel, some rye bits, dark sweet fruits, juicy grapefruit, a touch of spicy funk. Nice smelling beer.

Wow... WAY more of a punch than I was anticipating. The brett has taken control of this beer. Dry funky punch followed by tart fruits, a bit of citrus, dark malts. Surprising but tasty nonetheless.

Certainly an interesting concept of a beer. I'd say give it a shot if you're on the fence.

A: pours a deep red with a huge dense and rocky cream colored head that is slow to fade
S: smells oaky, funky, tart, bretty yeast and slightly fruity
T: tastes of sour fruit, some horseblanket, oak, barnyard, some tannins and a bit like paint thinner. swallow is a nice and smooth oakyness with a bit of sweet fruitiness and vanilla
M: heavy side of medium. dances on the tongue with prickly carbonation. a bit of pucker and slight dryness on the finish but not overly so
O: very good. good flavors and solid complexity it would appear that this one needed a bit of time to get good. Seems to be that way with a few of their special releases.

The beer pours a hazy amber color with a some white head that slowly fades to spotty lacing.

Aromas begin with, no surprise wood barrel with nice caramel maltiness. As it warms you get the nice nuances of the barrel, mainly oak and a little spice.

The tastes begin with maltiness; caramel and breadiness. The oak comes in next with more increasing fruity flavors. As it warms you get more very pleasant mellow flavors of vanilla, some toffee, honey and a little hint of dark fruitiness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The barrel aging helps to dry out the full caramel and bready malt body and temper the ABV sweetness.

Overall this is a very good oak aged red ale, not the best or as good as the previous release Woodcut No 3 but still quite solid.
