The bottle boasts an interesting description of the beer. Served at 48°F, caged and corked. A focused effort was required to pry out the cork and unleash the fog.

A: Heavy carbonation leaves a four-finger head atop the beer after pouring into a goblet. Darker than I'd expected, this deep brown ale is clear enough to let ruby highlights through when held to the light. The cap is creamy, thick, and rocky, and stays until the glass is empty, leaving smears of sticky Belgian lace on the glass.

S: Saboteur has an amazing nose, hitting first with strong notes from the oak barrel. After the vanilla and wood, malty, caramel sweetness come through, competing with a slight sourness. The Brett yields aromas of wet leather, an abundance of minty spiciness, other phenols, and a hint of smoke. Wood, however, is definitely the headline.

T: O'Dell has found the perfect balance for an exceptional brown. A menagerie of flavors mingles in your mouth: biscuity, toasted, bread-like malt; a touch of chocolate and sprinkle of vanilla; some deeper roasts and smoke; a touch of pineapple; and tart, funky flavors to restore balance. The finish is warming from the alcohol, but the 10% ABV is definitely well-hidden.

M: Saboteur's mouthfeel is creamy, and medium-full bodied.

D: High. This beer is a fantastic example of a barely-sour brown, which is complex but maintains good balance between the varying flavorings. The high alcohol content does make Saboteur dangerous, though.

My review doesn't reflect my appreciation for getting the bottle. Thank you Geoff for sending it. 750 ML bottle split with a friend poured into a tulip style glass. Comes out very dark brown, close to black. Deep mahogany highlights. Crazy big foaming white head, a lot o carbonation with a pour that wasn't even that hard.

Smell is decent, sort of tart and sour aromas as the strong point. Some candied sugar, maybe some dried figs and charred caramel. A bit of that Belgian yeast to it.

Taste is a step down from the smell. More like a Belgian brown style beer but "Imperial" because you can tell it's bigger with more alcohol. Some sweetness to with and some natural bitterness. Doesn't really taste sour; more like it's just past it's prime or an infected beer that wasn't intended to be that way.

Mouthfeel is alright, but odd. I don't think this beer knows what it's supposed to be, it has a lot going on. Not very smooth, a bit gritty. Sort of has a fermented fruit feel to it. Somewhat drinkable but overall I gotta just list this beer as "okay." Never could've finished the bottle by myself.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Big khaki head atop a brown body. Great retention.

Smell - A little bretty. Deep caramel notes. Some chocolate.

Taste - Bretty and earthy. Lots of deep caramel and chocolate. Dry.

Mouthfeel - A little heavy. Well carbonated.

Overall - A clash of flavors. Meh.
