Poured from a bottle dated Best By 1/10/14, into a (tried in both a tulip and a pint, preferred a pint).
Appearance - black, but allows enough light in to notice carbonation and a mahogany tone is apparent against the light. Mountainous, mocha head with gobs of lace!
Smell - subtle pine, floral and citrus hops blended with chocolate and coffee.
Taste - Hops up front, dark coffee and chocolate malts finish on the palate. Some sips come across a bit too heavy, but that is nitpicking.
Feel - complex brew! Some hop bitterness, but overpowered slightly by the darker tones.
Overall - I love the Black IPA (Black Ale) style, in fact, possibly my favorite style. This is a brilliant representation! Complex, balanced and tasty...very well done!
