As the style name implies, this pours a dark shade of mahogany with some wonderful crimson highlights. It produces a thick head of light brown colored foam, over three fingers thick, from an easy pour. The retention is great and the lacing is in nice thick strands.
Big hop notes are all over this nose. Floral, lightly citrus, green and piney. There is definitely some decent maltiness down in there, but it's oh so hidden.
Spicey hop notes lead the way, with some floral notes close behind. They give way to some nice hints of butterey caramel and slight amounts of brown sugar. A good deal of nuttiness comes in. The hops then return to kiss you farewell.
This one has a medium body to it and a light-to-medium level of carbonation. It is nice and smooth and has a slight touch of creaminess, which is nice.
While this has a slight hint of warmth to it, it certainly drinks a lot easier than 8.50%abv should drink. It's also filled with flavors that compliment each other very well, making it a fairly easy drinker.
