Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into globe.

A - Pours a deep deep brown that's almost black with a huge 3 finger tan head with great retention and solid lacing.

S - A nice blend of herbal, piney, and citrusy hop flavors together with hints of sweet malty flavors provide for a nice nose. Alcohol isn't all that noticeable.

T/M - The initial flavor is that of pine/earthy hops. The beer quickly balances out as the roasted malts and a sweet almost fruity flavor enter the palate. The beer finishes creamy and slightly bitter with a hint of roast at the end. It's on the lighter end of a medium body and hides the alcohol very well. Very good.

D - Well I gone through 5 bottles before reviewing! It's extremely drinkable.

Overall, this is an outstanding brew and I highly recommend it. I wish they'd release all year instead of as a Mountain Standard release...will cross my fingers.

Dark and bitter, beautiful stiff, but fluffy beige head and clumpy lacing. Dark brown, aroma of pine/hops. Taste hits hard with initial hop bitterness, some dark malts, chocolate, molasses. Light bitterness remains on the palate. nicely done.

12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Part of $10 sixer mixer. Doing the annual watching of SS5+

Appearance - Small white soapy head. Cloudy residue at the bottom of the can that disperses into the beer making it more hazy. Hazy but bright yellow body. Almost has a faint greenish tint. 4

Smell - Dry grass and mellowed lemony citrus. 4

Taste - Bitter dry grass. Alcohol shows. 4

Mouthfeel - Dry, medium bodied though kind of hollow. It lacks much bite or sharpness. Slightly astringent. 4

Overall - Enjoyable but not memorable. 4

Pours golden yellow with fluffy white foamy cap. Subtle juicy citrus notes with bold, vibrant hop flavors and aromas. Smooth, non-bitter, simple and beautiful IPA!

Dark brown/light black; light passes through the edges easily.

Decent head; massive lace.

Nose is hop forward; grapefruit mostly, back end of roasted coffee.

The chocolate malts are more assertive in the taste, but this finishes strongly of grapefruit.

A nice, black IPA; these two flavors are not the most natural pair, but this works better than it should. Booze is well hidden; would never guess it's 9.5%.

12oz can, date stamped 04/17/18. I had the barrel aged version of this one a couple months ago, so I couldn't resist getting the base beer, even if I've only seen it in the mixed 12 pack. Deep mahogany colored ale with a tall & rocky khaki head that holds incredible retention and leaves thick lacing down the glass. Aroma is big on piney hops with some burnt caramel and roasted malt. Flavors are bold with notes of roasted barley, coffee, chocolate, char, and a bit of anise that blends with a huge hop profile of earthy pine and citrus zest. Full creamy, sticky, and resinous body with hop oils covering the palate with pungent bitterness. This is great! I'd drink this anyday.

Can purchased in Boulder. Best By date of 3/16/18.

Look: Lots of lasting lacing. Thick foamy tan head that never leaves you. Beer lounges with a turbid, deep, mahogany color. I cannot think of anything else I could expect for a beer to look like.

Smell: "Malt...I like what that reviewer said about popcorn...toasty caramel....dark chocolate? ....peaches? ....lemons? ...Is that the complexity making me dizzy or the 8.2% ABV" So amazingly complex: all of the above plus toasted pineapple, fresh pine needles,, back to dark malt, toffee. Outstanding.

Taste: Starts with a intense perfect marrying of hop and malt then fold into kinda a watery super bright malt then evolves into rich roast with the right amount of bitterness and hop complexity: pineapple, tart lemon, pine needles, apricots. Long bitter-sweet hoppy finish.

Feel: Robust and full then almost too light then clean and rich without stickiness.

Overall: An experience. First sip was a bit underwhelming with Firestone's Wookus fresh in mind. It is not nearly as smooth and seamless. But the seams allow for a ridiculous amount of complexity and enjoyment. I would highly recommend to all except maybe those that are very sensitive to hop bitterness.

Research:
Odell- Fall Seasonal. IPA. IBU-56. ABV 8.1%. Daylight savings time ended on November 5, winter began December 21. So I guess this is a late fall seasonal celebrating the end of Daylight savings time and the coming of winter. Their blog talks about the balance inherent in the season - a balance of warmth and coolness. Hops are local from Colorado's Western Slope. Great beer.

Pours black with two fingers of khaki foam. Head retention is great, as is lacing left behind. Aroma is roasted, toasted, biscuit, and earth malts, and herbal and pine hops. Lovely depth to the aroma. Flavor profile is a mash-up of roasted, toasted, and biscuit malts, with herbal, pine, and resin hops. The biscuit malts taste doughy, and fresh, with the hops leaving a long lasting flavor on the palate. Great balance, and depth. Mouth feel is medium-thick, with a velvety, creamy feel - almost stout like. Overall, a hearty black IPA that really packs a punch. It's not bitter, or sweet, but instead holds itself firmly between striking a fantastic balance. It's a filling, and tasty beer.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz can.

Pours a light brown bean color which forms a shiny black body in the snifter. The head is popcorn colored and tall at 2 fingers.

Aroma is citra hops right off the bat, hints of amarillo, and tree bark. Hiding behind that are notes of molasses and hot caramel.

Flavor is complex but not. It's quite dirty, like old laundry, but the hops lean on the dank side of things which doesn't surprise me for Odell. There's a brightness on the flipside of that coin though, with bright fruity notes like orange and grapefruit as the hops open up on the palate. Comes off as an orange rolled in smothered campfire. The roast malts are kept to a bare minimum, and largely impart color only, with that hint of smoke/char in there. Very faint suggestions of anise on the finish. Overall the flavor is : dirty laundry, dank, roast, citrus, earth, anise.

Feel is creamy with a quiet carbonation and a roasty, resiny finish.

Overall, I was expecting more due to the hype by both word of mouth and, well, the overall scores here. It's not as good as Zipline's Black IPA (which most have never heard of), or even 21st's Back In Black. It is fairly enjoyable though, and has the Odell signature all over it. Recommended.

12oz can best by 2-9-18
Mahogany color with a 1/2" beige head retains as a cap-crown. Full lace.
Piney, resin-y hops over a roasted malt back...smells sticky if that's even possible.
Roasted, slight charred quality. Pine needle, faint orange peel...a little spicy as well.
Clean mouthfeel, medium bodied..slight heat from ABV @ 8.1%.
Tasty, Big on both sides - malt and hops but has a nice balance and leaves me wanting another can.

Purchased a fresh six pack cans in December 2017. Pours drop black with nice healthy carbonation. Smells slightly sweet rye. Tastes dry smooth with little flavor. Quite boring, nothing special.
