DFH signature glass
A: Pours a deep dark brown color with some reddish hues behind it. One full finger of tight bubbled (bottle conditioned) light tan mocha colored head. Some sticky lacing is left on the glass after the whirl.
S: Wow, you get blasted with hops right away. Lots of piney Amarillo and or Cascade aroma. Some fruitiness is there. Don't get the malts. Its almost like alpha klaus from recent memory.
T: Right up front of the tongue you get a little bit of that hop bitterness, but it's not overpowering. Then in the middle of the mouth you get those nice dark malt characteristics: mild chocolate and coffee (not a lot). The alcohol is extremely well hidden. I can't believe this is 9.5 ABV except for the slight warming in the back of throat.
M: Full bodied even though it isn't the thickest beer around.
O: I really enjoy this one. It's right up there. Solid A for me. Top 3 Black IPA versions I have tried.
