Pours a tan head. Color is a deep brown.

Aroma: a little chocolate roast and caramel. Hop resiny. Grapefruit citrus and floral hops.

Taste: Citrus and hop resin juiciness. A little roast and coffee. Caramel. Chocolate. The maltiness is minimal. Grapefruit and pineapple. Surprisingly hoppy.

Mouthfeel: Sticky, yet roasty. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends sticky.

Overall, this is actually a solid black ipa. Very hoppy. The malt and roast is minimal so it doesn't take away from the hops. I like it.

While I really couldn't imagine saying a negative word about Odell, this beer does not compare to Sublimely Self Righteous. There, that is as negative as I can get. What a lovely, deliciously hoppy brew! Another wonderful job by our friends up in Fort Collins!

Pours like the blackest of coffee with a finger of tan head and indiscernible beading. Nice lacing. This beer is extremely well balanced, atypical of the style. Roasted black malts are blanketed with an understated mix of hops. Nose caries through to the tongue. Comes across more as a "hoppy something darker" than a "darker something hoppy" - quite tasty though. The feel is suitable, as is the carbonation. Overall, a well-balanced Cascadian Dark Ale ;)

I am in love with this beer. It's dark, rich and full of flavor.

Mountain Standard black with a mocha head that has surprising retention considering its ABV. The head also leaves thick lacings on the side that remind the drinker of the serious amount of shenanigans in store on the taste side of things. The smell isn't incredibly strong, but it's floral and caramel sweet.

The first thing that stood out for me was the smoothness of this beer. Heaping amounts of those floral hop flavors are balanced by a dark malt backbone, with the bitterness coming at the very back. Alcohol comes at the very end.

Fantastic brew. I would've expected it to be a tad bit thicker, but this worked just fine.

Pored in Boulevard tulip

Appearance, black with a creamy head that is sticking around, very frothy and sticky head that stays on the side of the glass.

Smell, Floral Hops are coming through, at the same time I’m getting a blast of roasty sugar which has produce a great smell.

Taste, this is an excellent balance of hops and roasted grains, letting it settle on my palate I’m getting some pine in the end. Slight coffee/espresso flavors are picked up as well.

Mouthfeel, an attack of hops which is quickly lightened by a wave of velvety smoothness… when actually thought about this makes the beer truly stand out.

Overall, possibly my favorite beer from Odell so far… they hit the jackpot with this one, despite the $11 4-pack I will be buying more of this in the future.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness Chalice glass. Bottle best by date is 4/12/12.

Appearance: Pours dark and black with only a little bit of brownish ruby red shining through the bottom of the glass. Moderate amount of bubbles and a decent two fingers of off white head that stick around pretty good. Lots of lace on the glass.

Smell: Very roasty and hoppy. Big aroma of dark roasted malts with good hints of chocolate and a little coffee. A fairly strong hop presence with lots of earthy hops, pine resin, and some citrus grapefruit and pineapple. Nice mixture of fruity and floral hops with the malt.

Taste: Taste is very hoppy upfront with a nice blend of citrus and earthy hops. Notes of grapefruit, pineapple, orange, and pine resin. Midway comes a very hearty backing of bready dark roasted malts. Nice notes of chocolate with a little coffee in the back end. Some spice hangs on to the tongue. Very good.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy and somewhat oily. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: A very good take on a Black Ale. Very big and robust flavors but well balanced.

A-Pours an opaque dark brown with plenty of tan head and huge lacing.

S-Roasty with great dark chocolate notes and a milky sweetness. Earthy hops in the back.

T-Delicious flavors. Rich roastiness and bitter chocolate in the front with plenty of rich citrus hops in the finish. Delicious,

M-Medium Bodied, nice lingering bitterness.

O-A contender for my favorite black IPA. I have held Sublimely Self Righteous at the top of the pyramid for this style for quite a while. This one is in that class.
