pours a striking, glowing caramel orange hue with an incredible two-plus-finger soft billowy head that slowly fades to a cap that leaves some of the most striking lacing I've ever seen.
aroma is as expected: tropical fruit, lots of citrus, hints of pine, some honey, caramel, and maple-like malt notes.
taste is incredibly pungent hops with a wide array of hop notes... pineapple, guava, orange, lemon, grapefruit, thyme, oregano, pine and juniper. a hefty malt sweetness balances the hops with notes of maple syrup, cane sugar and burnt caramel.
mouth is pretty great.... smooth, rich, full, ample carbonation but not so much that it stands out. a bit syrupy, a touch slick in the finish, but it works pretty well all in all.
all in all, this a solid double ipa well worth its rating and praise. The flavor profile - specifically the hops - don't completely blow my palate out of the water, but I can't knock it for that. all around impressive and one of the better IIPAs I've had recently.
