Named for Myrcene, a component of essential oils in the hop flower, Myrcenary Double IPA is our tribute to those who revere the illustrious hop, and their unyielding exploit to craft hop forward beers. Brewed with a blend of hops containing the highest levels of Myrcene, this double IPA prevails with a tropical fruit-like flavor, a pungent floral aroma, and a clean getaway.

A lot has been said so I won't go into details. I'm a little surprised by this one, I'm wondering if it's been a touch overhyped. I know it's a high ABV IPA and I expect some alcohol taste but I find it to have a pretty boozy quality. So much so I felt it spoiled some of its more desirable qualities. It's a good IPA but I don't think this one lives up to the hype it has here. (378 characters)

Huge Double IPA that I wish were more readily available in Iowa. Had this at a friends who brought a 6 pack back from Chicago. Lots of hops here! Hop bomb! (158 characters)

On tap at the brewery, served in a tulip glass. A cloudy dark orange-gold with an off white foamy head that dissipates leaving a decent amount of lacing. Smells delicious, caramel malt and citrus with a hint of tropical fruit. Also tastes delicious, sweet caramel leads the way for a crisp and bitter finish. Medium to think body carries the ibus well, providing a nice balance for the hops and grains. Overall, this is a real tasty beer. Worth going out of your way for. (471 characters)

Have had this on tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl and from a bottle poured into a tulip glass.
L: Pours hazy gold under a 2” finely bubbled white foam cap that persists and is clingy.
S: Flowery, citrus, fruit, light malt. The hop oils are pungent.
T: Citrus and stone fruits, bready malt, grapefruit rind bitter finish. Lingering fruity, malty bitter aftertaste.
F: Outstanding soft, creamy texture, medium to a little above on the body, medium carbonation.
O: On tap frequently around here making it a go to beer. (517 characters)

12oz bottle brought back from Arizona. Date on the label is 9/4/15B. I presume that's "best by". Served in a tulip.

Pours slightly hazy golden with a smallish head and lots of very slow carbonation. Kind of entrancing to watch. Smell is a little piney, a little citrusy. Fairly tropical.

Taste is a little straw, nice bitterness. More of what I think of as a traditional IPA, in terms of piney/grapefruity bitterness, without a lot of floral/citrus notes. Nice.

Mouthfeel is dry, resinously so. Fairly light. Overall, good solid IPA. Better than I remember it being. (581 characters)

I have been working in northern Colorado and have had the privilege of trying some local beers not readily available to me back home in Texas. One such beer was Myrcenary by Odell. It ranks among the better Dipa's I've had. The thing that stands out to me with this beer is the balance. IMO the malt does a great job of balancing with the massive hop profile. The hops are juicy and reminiscent of a fresh hop brew. The most interesting aspect of this brew to me was the syrupy mouthfeel. This brew also does a good job of masking the alcohol.

Overall a great brew I am glad to have tried. (591 characters)

Bottle, best by 8/20/15 (so a little age):
Stupid iPhone screwed up while typing full review. Since I think this beer is a bit old, I'll give a limited review.

Light golden, clear. White head covers the surface and provides some lacing.
Hint of honey adds to a tropical scent. The scent is fairly weak, maybe due to age, and also has a hint of alcohol in some whiffs.

Taste starts out with a bit of heat, sometimes seemingly based on alcohol, sometimes like earthy spices. Tropical notes come out later, and a little more strongly with a warmer beer. End taste is lightly piney.

All the aspects of this beer appear to be muted. I have noticed other beers fade in this way before, so I think it's not unlikely. Since I cannot tell if this is purposeful or due to age, I tried to balance it. (799 characters)

Pale auburn pour with thick white foam; great lace and head retention. Fresh squeezed lemon and tropical fruit - pineapple and mango - some hoppy grass notes too. Malt balances nicely the lemon grass and tropical fruit (mango!) flavors. Medium lite mouthfeel which is slightly sticky with a resinous tongue coating - yet still a little creamy from the malt. Overall, this is excellent with a tropical fruit/papaya finish. (422 characters)

I'm not a big IPA guy, but I'm trying them again because everyone and their mother seems to be on an IPA kick. I am, however, an Odell guy, so I figured theirs was a good one to experiment with, especially if I wanted a big beer. Myrcenary fits the bill. It tastes like a combination of their IPA and 5 Barrel Pale, which is actually pretty hoppy for a pale, so if you like those two, you'll like this. I trust Odell to make good beer in any style, and even if it's not my cup of tea, I'll probably still like it. (517 characters)

Blondy copperish color. Slightly cloudy. Rocky white head. Wow. Finally a beer from Odell brewery that really impressed me. Still wished beer was clear but not gonna butch about this beer. I don't like many ipa's eigher. Has nice hop upfront then some sweetness. I just flat out like this beer. Good job to the brewers. Also this site says 9.3 abv but the bottle says 10 (371 characters)

Found a bottle at Four Firkins in Minneapolis. The best by date suggests it's still good for another two months. Poured right from the 12 oz bottle into a snifter.

L: Pours a slightly chill-hazed golden amber, with about a half-inch of white head that falls after a bit and leaves nice lacing. Moderate visible carbonation.

S: A nice bouquet on this one: there are pineapple and floral hop notes, along with a bit of cut grass to go along with the bread-like malt aroma. Other interesting herbal notes at play, as well.

T: I was a bit surprised at how quickly I tasted clear alcohol on this one. The front end has the smooth caramel malts front and center, but in the middle there's an immediate onrush of bright acidity hitting the sides of the tongue, some pineapple and more resinous hop notes, and that boozy flavor. The back end has a healthy amount of resinous hop bitter, but it's accompanied by a bit of booziness.

F: This one is medium-bodied, though it does exhibit a bit of a syrupy quality that is usually off-putting to me in this style. This one has stick from the get-go. There's a nice level of carbonation to it. I will say, this one really let's you know that it's a double.

O: I enjoy this beer, but it's hard for me not to think that it could have been significantly better. I didn't find it to hide its alcohol well (though it does bring quite a high ABV), and I don't appreciate that syrupy quality in my pale ales--even doubles. However, it's got a great nose, nice malt profile, and bright hop flavors that definitely stay with you. (1,561 characters)

Pours hazy dark yellow with some nice head. Immediately a burst of ripe mango smell with maybe a hint of melon.

Taste is clean with good mouth feel. Bitter up front that quickly blends into a balanced sweetness that reminds me of a tangerine. Almost a juicy finish like some orange juice. Leaves a sticky delightful taste with my palate begging for more.

Delicious beer will ask for another bottle as a throw in for future Colorado trades. (444 characters)

A beautiful deep gold color with moderate head. About 2ft from the glass I got the scent of bountifully floral aroma hops, and getting closer I get a more grapefruit and caramel malt profile with some deeper dried tangerine background. The flavor profile is excellent, lending a completely different story than the smell. The perfect amount of caramel and flavor malts here lend a great balance with the earthy and fruity bittering hops. The lacing down the glass is magnificent. This one finishes with just the right amount of weight and carbonation. What a perfectly balanced brew here. (588 characters)

Had on draft at the Mellow Mushroom on Mill Avenue in Tempe. Never had anything by this brewer before so it was a complete shot in the dark. Not bad at all, but nothing that re-writes the book on amazing IPAs. Would order again, and would try more from Odell if given the opportunity. (284 characters)

Appearance - The beer was a copper color with a sizeable white head.

Smell - The smell strikes me as being a big dose of sour pineapple with varied ipa note in the background.

Taste - In the front, I note pineapple, sour apple, and grass. Resin notes are drawn out toward the back with biscuit impressions laying a foundation. The aftertaste varies between sweet and dry.

Mouthfeel - For an imperial, the beer goes down a little easy. Carbonation is appropriate.

Overall - This is among the best DIPAs I have had. (521 characters)

This is the same as their Odell iPA but cranked up to 11. An exceptional malt balanced DIPA with the same profile as their IPA, which is not always easy to replicate in a stronger format. This is as close as they could have come to doing so though.

Would absolutely seek out and purchase again. (295 characters)

Best by 03/10/15 Poured into a Sam Adams glass.

L- Medium/light amber, good clarity, two finger white head that dissipated to a centimeter.

S- Nice tropical and citrusy notes of papaya, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, some of that Juicy Fruit bubblegum like aroma.

T- Citrus of bitter grapefruit and orange peel, light toasted malt, light pine, light alcohol, light sweetness, light tropical notes compared to the aroma. Leaves the palette with a medium bitter citrus.

F- Heavier side of medium, only a very slight thin syrup feel to it.

O- Very nice, seems to have a lot of Simcoe hops with an aroma somewhat similar to Hopslam but to a lesser degree. Pretty cool that this is a year round beer, I would probably buy it many times if I could get it in my area. (771 characters)

It's somewhat syrupy goodness masks how strong this bad-boy is. Full of mouth-burning hops that are balanced by a strong malty backbone. (152 characters)

This double IPA is balanced to perfection. The citrus nodes stay on your palate long after a sip leaving you craving more. Starts hoppy with bite but finishes very smooth. As an IPA snob , I am quite shocked at the impression it had made. (238 characters)

A - Pours to a murky honey orange and gold color. Forms about a finger of lightly honey yellow soapy head. Leaves whispy lacing on the glass.
S - Aromas of sweet grapefruit, earthy herbal tones, hops, orange and apples. Very reminiscent of Lagunita's Lil Sumpin' Ale in it's aroma.
T - Strong yet balanced. Immediate sharp and quick bite of carbonation followed by quite sweet grapefruit and orange, this is balanced and rounded off by a nicely bitter hoppy finish. Excellently balanced yet strong. The 9.3% ABV is well hidden.
O - A damned good, 8.9/10 IPA in my books.
V - Good value. Four pack of bottles. (612 characters)

Twelve ounce bottle. Pours a crystal clear honey orange with a finger thick white head. Heavy lacing as the beer is consumed. Smells of citrus and orange blossom. Tastes of grapefruit/citrus, light earthy/grassy, barley, sweet malts. Medium body and a bit on the heavy side with the carbonation, pine and citrus resin on the tongue with a sweet malt aftertaste. I recall Odell being exceptional when I visited the brewery almost 10 years ago and this was no exception. I really enjoyed this beer. (503 characters)

Smell: Sweet citrusy smells abound, especially pineapple and orange
Taste: Right up front -BALANCED! Taste is sweet citrus forward, pineapple, finish is more bitter citrus like lemon or orange peel. The strong up front hoppy character is well balanced by the malt base.Mild alcohol burn. Excellent beer for a cold winter night.
Mouth Feel: Nice smooth coating that lasts. (470 characters)
