Myrcenary pours a hazy golden color with a small lacing head. There is a harsh sweet malty aroma, with hints of an oily hoppy kick. Taste is more balanced, harsher malty backbone, with bold hoppy flavors. The hoppy flavor is more oily then it is floral. While its well carbonated, there is a "flat" feel. Overall in my opinion its quite overrated, too sweet but too harsh.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter. Golden and peach colored with a single finger of head. Lacing on the side of glass is healthy.

The smell is complex, presenting citrus, specifically lemon and other sweet fruit aromas, some piney hops, and mellow malt hints. The taste is sweet and fruity initially but then gives away to a powerful bitterness and resinous, piney hops.

The mouthfeel is pleasant, mildly dry with only subtle hints of alcohol. It's quite easy to drink despite being a double.

Overall, a great DIPA and certainly on par with many of the best in the business. The only difference is it's easier to obtain.

Odell Brewing Company - Myrcenary Double IPA, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a cloudy golden with a slight amber twinge and a small foamy head that retains well. Great lacing.

Smell - Caramel malt with dank tropical hop resin on top. Balanced, could have a bit more hop aroma but still terrific.

Taste - Rich creamy malt with a smooth hop blended backbone. Tropical fruit and some nice bitter resin. I thought this brew excelled here.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied and slightly sticky. Booziness is right about where it was expected to be at 9.3%, quite smooth for such a high abv. Low carbonation.

Overall - Probably up in the second to highest tier in terms of "smooth (malt-forward) DIPAs". Not a punchy clean hop blast so it is probably hit or miss for hop heads but I definitely enjoyed this one and would get this again.

From a 355 ml bottle (best by December 20, 2013) into a tulip.

A-A normal pour produces about one and one-half fingers of white foam with so-so retention. The head leaves lovely lacing as it recedes. The brew is medium to dark gold in color and pretty clear. A good-looking brew but nothing mind-blowing.

S-I smell lots of zesty, spicy citrus (orange, in particular) and grapefruit. There is a bit of tropical pineapple in there too. The fruits are tempered by an oily, cedar/pine-like sharpness. Balance comes in the form of lightly toasted-smelling malts that provide just a bit of caramel. Alcohol is well-concealed.

T-The taste is a great blend of spiced orange, grapefruit, and resiny pine. There is a bit of toffee and caramel from the malts, which provide a good balance to the aggressive hops. The finish is long and lightly bitter. Great balance here and again, alcohol is nearly imperceptible.

M-The feel is medium body with a nice oily/resinous coating of the palate. Carbonation is fine to moderately assertive, which keeps the brew from being sticky.

O-This is a great IIPA with aggressive hops and a tempering balance of toasty caramel malts. It looks like a IIPA is supposed to look, smells like a IIPA is supposed to smell, feels like an IIPA is supposed to feel and, most importantly, tastes like an IIPA is supposed to taste. What I particularly enjoy is how there are juicy citrus hops, but also a tempering pine/cedar flavor and just enough caramel to to keep things in balance. Its not a one-trick pony. The feel is also wonderful. Top notch.
