Excited! Excited! Excited!

I love Odell's labeling. So basic. I like ambers so let's see what they have to offer here. Single from World Market.

Appearance (4.5) : This thing has more head than any amber I've ever laid eyes on. A thick, malty four finger head atop a beautiful honey-amber body. Opacity is around 80%. Leaving broken rings of fluffy lace around the glass as it recedes like a snail.

Smell (3.5) : Haha. This smells almost identical to 90 Shilling. Metallic amber notes with coffee bean, copper, earth, and cracked corn. A little bit of flower petal for good measure. Not the beer's strong suit in my opinion as bitter smells are off-putting to me.

Taste (3) : Pretty decent. BUT - Here's my qualms - it's a bit on the coppery/metallic side. The hops are there and even though the label on the bottle says they're tamed, they're pretty aggressive for an Amber. So it's got that metallic citrus pine thing going on. Within that orb of metallic citrus pine is a smooth wheat taste that is full and tasteful. Smooth on the finish with more piney hops.

Straight from the bottle you get more malt than hops, it's a bit better that way. In the glass you're getting a pretty hop-forward, coppery amber taste.

Mouthfeel (3.25) : Spritzy, prickly carbonation then melts into a smooth creamy finish. Slightly dry.

Overall (3.57) : Disappointed in this one. Just finished a Nordeast and that beer is an easy drinking, great tasting Amber. This is more of a one-off, you can't drink more than one (if you can even finish it), as the hops are very pronounced and out front. You hop heads will like it, but as for me, I'll stick with my malty Amber beers.
