Lovely bottle...the label is fabulous, and the relief detail on the shoulder is a very nice touch. Of course, it's what is inside that really matters here, so here we go..
Beautiful in the glass...very dark brown to black, with a light tan head that starts about two fingers, and slowly falls to one with some thick lace left behind. Held tot he light, it's a nice ruby/cola colour, and very clear.
The aroma is somewhat weak, but very good. Chocolate and smoke hit right up front, with some ancho chile and coffee following.
The flavour seems dominated by the smokiness. Coffee comes out aorund the edges, with a dry finish. There s bit of date-like flavour there just on the edges. The smokiness is just a bit too high for me- but only just a bit.
A little light on body for a porter, with just a bit too much carbonation.
Despite some shortcomings, I think this one is rather drinkable, and I wouldn't turn it down.
