Notes & Commercial Description:

Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, we use dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. We named it Cutthroat Porter as our tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring. And while we’re big fans of small batches, here’s to the currently threatened Cutthroat population reaching mass quantities.

Sometimes you don't want to mess around with flavored porters. Sometimes you want a smooth and somewhat robust Porter that's traditional and satisfying. Look no further because this is the Porter for you. As the description says, it's definitely not a stout and is a straight shooting Porter that will satisfy any beer snobs palette. Smooth mouthfeel, dark and robust flavor, I want one now that I'm writing this review. Go out and get yourself one.

From a 355 ml bottle (bottled February 18, 2015) to a snifter.

A-A slightly aggressive pour produces a tall head of more than two fingers. The foam is light mocha in color and it leaves a wisp of lace. Pretty good retention. The beer is a good looking, dark-brown color (nearly black) with red-ruby highlights on the edges.

S-The aroma is nice and chocoately -- both milk and dark chocolate (and cocoa powder) come to mind. There is a little hint of citrus hop in there and a twang of cold coffee bitterness.

T-The taste is smooth with more milk chocolate than dark chocolate. It almost has some stout-like cream flavor in there. I also taste some caramelized barley malt, and that light citrusy twang on the finish from the hops.

M-The body is medium in heft with a smooth carbonation. Easy to drink.

O-Despite living in Colorado for nearly all of the my legal-drinking-age-life, I don't think I have ever tried Cutthroat until now and I'm sorry that I haven't. It is a nice drinking porter that provides a solid, if somewhat simple, flavor and nice drinkability.

Ruby and brown pop out in this dark brew. Head is a light khaki, fluffy and laces nicely.

Fairly roasted and sweet with chocolate, caramel, and a slight marshmallow, cream, and hop.
Nose is a little more nuanced and enjoyable for me.

Fairly light which is expected at 5% with some crisp carbonation and a slight bitterness.
