Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Todd on 05-19-2001

Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, we use dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. We named it Cutthroat Porter as our tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring. And while we’re big fans of small batches, here’s to the currently threatened Cutthroat population reaching mass quantities.

A: Pours a dark brown with a ruby red hue through out. A two finger, rocky beige head forms with excellent retention. Rings of lace left all the way down the glass.
S: Light roast and coffee. Just a bit acrid in the nose. Baked bread and chocolate. Very nice.
T: Some roast up front, but the coffee beans take over. Bakers chocolate that is slightly bitter, toasted malts and bready. Really enjoyable.
M/D: A medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, but ultra smooth at the same time. Really enjoyable to drink. All day with this.

I am glad bottles finally made it to Texas. I can never have enough good porters in the fridge. I will certainly have to make room for this one. Highly recommended.

Classic example of the style. Even better when you can get the nitro draft!

From the bottle, a rich dark brown color with a light tan head (about 1/4 inch) dissolving to a lacy foam in about a minute. Light malty slightly sweet aroma with a hint of something maybe earthy or charcoal. Toasty malt flavor with notes of coffee and molasses. Very lightly hopped. Pretty mild overall with only a slight bitterness. Very drinkable, not sure about the 99 from Bros.

Not bitter at all. Very complex for a porter.

A: black as the night, at some moments you can see through the dark carmel hue, marvelous..

S: typical sweet porter smell, to me that earns a 4.5! I love it dark :)

T: Its a porter, but on top of that, dark, sweet, smokey, ooowee. what is this? 4.75

M: Thick and smooth, reminiscent of summer BBQs. Wow, I can't fathom the idea of a brew with all these attributes but damn, here it is.

O: yuuuup
