Notes/Commercial Description:
Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, we use dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. We named it Cutthroat Porter as our tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring. And while we’re big fans of small batches, here’s to the currently threatened Cutthroat population reaching mass quantities.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Bruery tulip. It poured black in color color with a thin, frothy, tan colored head to it.

The aroma shows a lot of roasty and bitter dark chocolate flavors to it. I get some nice coffee notes to it and a little sweeter caramel as well. Very flavorful and smooth aroma for the style.

The taste also shows a lot of bitter-sweet dark chocolate to it throughout. I get some roasted malts and coffee flavors to it as well. A little bit of a sweeter, creaminess comes out in the finish and helps give it some balance.

The mouthfeel is on the thicker side for a non imperial version of the style with carbonation being on the lower side. Overall I thought it was a pretty solid beer of the style. Very flavorful and easy drinking beer.

Appearance: Black, tan head, decent retention, good lacing.

Smell: Roasty malts. Coffee comes through most. Light chocolate and burnt aroma.

Taste: Roasty malts that come off as coffee and light chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Velvety, good amount of carbonation, fairly drinkable.

Overall: This is a pretty darn good beer. Check it out if you haven't ever tried it before and want a super solid porter at a reasonable price.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12 ounce bottle.

A: Pitch black with no light shining through. The cream colored head settles slowly.

S: Roasty and maltly! Slight coffee and chocolate tones.

T: Roasty and malty! The roasty flavor hits strong and lingers before a sweeter flavor finishes.

M - Very pleasing and no overpowering. Quite tasty.

D - It's hard to just have one if that helps. The fact it doesn't dominate your palate with warm alcohol flavors is nice. Recommended beer.

Appearance: Dark with 1 finger head. Visible carbonation sticks to the side and flows. Completely opaque. Really looks spot on for the style.

Smell: Delicious. Chocolate, cream, figs. The nose really resembles and oatmeal stout. Very pronounced malt profile without much for hops.

Taste: Very nice chocolate notes right off the bat. Again, keeps right along with the oatmeal stout lines. Very clean and with a almost total lack of bitter notes. Great toffee and even some almond notes. A little sugar but nothing too crazy. Spot on amount of taste for my liking, nothing imperial but it has a great amount of flavor.

Mouthfeel: Full. Not viscous but very substantial. There is great carbonation running through the beer that moves around across the palate.

Overall: I really enjoyed this. One of the most flavorful porters I have had in a while. The flavor was spot on and with a great amount of it. It wasn't imperial but very full bodied. The beer reminded me a lot of a milk stout with its creaminess, chocolate notes and lack of bitter finish. I would love to have some more of this.

Real dark with real tight carbonation. Two-finger tan head. Sharp looking beer. Lots of roast in the aroma, with some coffee. Tastes like its smells - lots of roast with some sweetness underneath that resembles a stout. Real enjoyable beer, and perfect if you can't decide between having a porter or stout. Seems like a hybrid of each.
