Notes & Commercial Description:

We introduced 90 Shilling, our flagship beer, at our opening party in 1989. For a while, we'd been wondering what would happen if we lightened up the traditional Scottish ale? The result is an irresistibly smooth and delicious medium-bodied amber ale.

Appearance: Pours a dark amber with one finger off white head. Head dissipates quickly. Not much lacing.

Smell: Sweet malts, caramel, citrus, brown sugar.

Taste: I first get a taste of citrusy hops which is very surprising. Maybe I am tasting something else that is giving the beer a citrusy flavor. Finishes sweet and malty. A citrusy hop profile is definitely coming through in this beer. Don't think I've tasted that before in a 90 schilling but I like it. Reminds me of dogfish indian brown ale a little bit.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Great feel.

Sweet fruity flavors as well as a nice sweet malty finish make this beer much more enjoyable than I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised with this one. Fantastic balance.

Wow. Raul just landed his ass in the cornfields of Omaha and he is just doing it! Life isn't bad my children, life isn't bad at all. And as Raul sips on this beer by default, he ain't strugglin. He's kind of happy.

Smooth and caramel-esque like Raul's senior year prom date. I mean, she was a nice girl, and every now and then I still thinks of you girl, but I probably won't ever be back. It's one of those good thangs, but not one of those "good" thangs.

A real nice scottish style ale. Very refreshing.

Nice reddish brown color. Good mouthfeel.

Balanced nose of hops and malts. A nice hop dry finish.

Smooth and pleasing. An ale that would go well with most foods.

Hints of chocolate malt in the background. A well rounded ale.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance - dark amber/brown, carbonation bubbles build a beige/off white head. Lacing is very good with this beer!
Smell - caramel, biscuit, spice; soothing.
Taste - follows the nose with the caramel, some biscuit. Roasted malt is strong in this one.
Feel - some hops trying to break through after the first few sips. Carbonation is noticeable. Feels too light, kind of a turn off.
Overall - this is a solid beer and very good for the style. I usually don't drink Scottish ales, but this is nice.
