12 oz bottle into a Hoffman House chalice. Bottle dated 9/11/12. A winter seasonal at the end of September? Fine with me.
A - Pours deep red, crystal clear, with a large, tight tan head. Carbonation appears moderate. Much lacing.
S - Toffee, honey and caramel malts. No hop aroma to speak of.
T - Malt bomb. Reminds me of a Scottish ale in many respects. Certain cinnamon character in the mid-late. Finish is actually on the dry side, with a mild, slightly roasty bitterness cleansing the sweetness. Alcohol only becomes noticeable on close inspection.
M - Heavy body with mild carbonation.
O - A malty, drinkable, warming ale of moderately high strength. Up to Odell's very high quality standards. I would expect no less from them.
