A merlot colored ale with nice lacing from the off white sticky head.

Smells like a cup full of malt with a ton of nuts. Lots of bready aromas captivate my nasal passage. mmmm...

Taste favors the malt side of things. Very grainy. A woody and earthy hop exchange keep things moving.

Medium body on this warmer, with an okay overall feel, perhaps it could benefit from less carbonation though. Pretty smooth otherwise, but nothing to write home about.

Very approachable, great for winter parties, or just sitting by the fire and watching a classic holiday flick. I enjoyed mine while watching the Nuggets on this snowy Denver night.

It's got to be tough for Odell. Living in the shadow of the much bigger and considerably more successful New Belgium Brewing (figuratively and literally, they're less than a mile from each other). Odell consistently turns out good to great beers yet they haven't had the same financial success as their larger compatriot. When I was living in Colorado, I favored Odell. They were the underdog. I believed they had a better variety. The quality of what they made was as good, if not slightly better than, New Belgium. I moved from Colorado four years ago, but I'm still pulling for the little guys.

I am fortunate to go back to Colorado on a regular basis. Whenever I get the chance, I haul back as much local and regional beer as I can fit in my suitcase or in the car. On one of my more recent trips, I brought back a six of Isolation. Maybe it's me, maybe coincidence, but I'm finding it surprisingly like Fat Tire circa 2005. Amber, slight cloudiness ( a bit of a departure here), filmy head, it has a strong earthy aroma. Lots of malt and a nice medium body. I can certainly see where this would appeal to a budding beer enthusiast. Rich mouthfeel, medium to low hopping, and neither over or under carbonated.

I have since gone to the Odell website and found that Isolation is a seasonal. Any resemblance to beers mentioned previously are heretofore coincidence. That said, good beer is good beer, and Isolation, independent of the similarities I have discussed above, is a very decent drink. I wish the folks at Odell much success and hope to see them in my market soon.

Poured a nice amber color with lots of highlights and a small white head. Nose is malty, earthy and very sweet. Taste is lots of malt, dark fruits and poerhaps some nutmeg. Mouthfeel is warming, thought the ABV was bigger than it was. tasted bigger and fuller.

Odell is a great brewery, and I keep trying the Isolation Ale thinking I should like it and never warm up to it completely.

Thin white head with a lace over a copper colored ale that changes from gold to amber in the bar light. Strong malt, caramel and toffee in the nose--subtle spice from the hop and a hotness from the alcohol. Newcastle like malt taste, but much hoppier and it has a mineral twang over sweet caramel and toffee. Fruity and floral hop punches through the apparent alcohol (6% accroding to BA). Good beer, well brewed--I'm just not a fan of it.

2004-2005 pours a clear copper-orange with a nice light brown head of big bubbles that lasts, nice lacing. Bready, earthy aromas, chocolate and caramel cookie flavors. medium bodied with a lightly carbonated soft mouthfeel, finishes dry. A nice winter ale, very drinkable.

12 oz from a 6 pack into a snifter

A: Deep amber with 2 fingers gorgeous, gorgeous head.

S: Clean, crisp wheatiness. Sweet and simple.

T: Sweet up front, finishes quickly to a wheaty crispitude. Crisp is really the word here.

F: Kind of light, but thick enough to make an impression.

D: Could drink all day, and have.

I had originally intended to drink this on the longest day, but circumstances conspired against me. Still, what could be better than a winter ale at the beginning of summer?

A 12 oz bottle; there is a date of Sept 2010 on the label although I presume this is the botting date rather than the use by date? I like the stylised image on the front.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A hazy coppery-brown with good carbonation. Produces a thick, creamy head of off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before collapsing to a surface layer. Aroma of rich, sweet malt with hints of grain, caramel, dried fruit and a whiff of alcohol.

Tastes of sweet biscuity malt with a dry finish. Notes of grain, caramel/toffee, brown sugar, and dried fruit. A hint of alcohol in the background. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, but a bit thinner than I expected. Sweet malty aftertaste.

Pretty good, although from experience I was expecting a 'winter warmer' to be slightly spiced. A nice balance of flavours with pleasant sweetness. Could perhaps have done with some subtle roasty notes to add character. The body seemed a little thin, but a very drinkable beer nonetheless. Worth sampling....
