Uses English malts and American hops, the brew takes cues from the countrys' best ingredients.

If you like Odell beers, you'll feel right at home with Pond Hopper. It has a very Odell feel, taste and structure to it. In fact, if you like the Odell IPA, this is just a souped up version of it.
It has some "English" qualities to it. There's a subtle fruitness / estery thing going on. The body, the mouth feel is heavily British.
I don't at all agree with calling it an Imperial IPA. It doesn't have that going on. Beeradvocate has this wrong. Even the Alstrom Bros review says this isn't an Imperial IPA. But yet here you have it blatantly miscategorized. Oh well, don't trust everything you read. This is an American Barleywine no question. Highly hopped, high starting gravity, high finishing gravity. Sweet, intense body, moderate carbonation, strong hops aroma and flavor.
It's a solid beer, but not enough of a variation on the standard Odell IPA to really be impressive. At 9.4%, the alcohol is there. But its the body that will slow you down, not the alcohol. It's just a seriously viscous beer. Heavy on the sweetness without being hella malty and this I really appreciate.
To be honest, save your money, and get a six pack of Odells IPA. It's not enough of a stretch to be worth the extra money to buy this. But if you're independent wealthy / living off student loans, by all means grab a bottle.
Without a doubt, Odell is the most solid Colorado brewery and their products have an unmistakable goodness to them.
