Appearance – This is a nice, super thick and hazy dull orange in color with a massive English-style head.

Smell – The hops are substantial but overwhelmed by the big British biscuit. I guess they put some Australian galaxy hops in here so was looking forward to getting a whiff but the British malts overpowered the hop profile. It’s a big, pleasant aroma, just not what I’d expect from a DIPA.

Taste – The hops are curiously much bigger at the taste. The biscuit is still sharp but more balanced and there’s a nice malty sweetness here that I didn’t pick up at the nose.

Mouthfeel – This is bigger than medium with a light bitterness offset by residual sugars.

Drinkability – This is a very different interpretation of the style, as collaborations often are, but it went down extremely well for a big 9.5 ABV beer.

750ml bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a huge rocky off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is caramel/crystal biscuity malts with some grassy slightly fruity hops.

The flavor is sweet sugary and slightly soapy caramel malts with some slightly metallic and fruity hops that add decent bitterness in the finish. There's a bit of alcohol burn in the finish too. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, it's decent but a bit too sweet and on the English side of the style for me.

750ml brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Hazed golden amber, dense head, perfect retention

SMELL: Citrus pith, cantaloupe rind, biscuity, nutty yeast, estery, herbal, spicy alcohol

TASTE: Big smoothness, creamy body, bisucity, grassy, herbal resin, hoppy, bitter, pineapple skin, yeast, very warming, cactus fruit, dry grain bitter finish

Collaboration with the Thronbridge Brewery, keep in mind that this is a double extra pale ale ... not an IPA. There is balance here though the alcohol does work a bit hard to be in the forefront. You'll want to share this bottle and make sure you have some time with it, great work everyone!

750 ml corked bottle served cold into a goblet.

Pond Hopper is a golden amber color with thick which head. It settles slowly leaving some nice lacing behind. Clarity is very good for the style.

Aroma is wonderfully hoppy. Odell makes some of the best hoppy beers around and this is no exception. Big grapefruit and other citrus hits you in the nose right away. Not so much a British IPA yet.

The flavor is a little more of an American British compromise with a richer malt body and more toasted malt chacter. Very nicely balanced with healthy doses of hops to takes down the sweetness. Citrus, pine, and earthy grassy hops all present.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well balanced for a big IPA, and surprisingly drinkable.

Overall a really great collaboration and worth picking up a bottle even considering the relatively high price.

A: Hazy with an apricot hue and a huge foamy head; decent lacing

S: Great hop forward aroma--lots of citrus and floral aromatics--there is a sweet malty undertone but no indication that this is a 9% beer

T: Interesting hop profile: some citrus but also some grassy and herbal notes and then a sweet boozy quality comes through; bitter up front but there is some balance in the finish

F: Medium body; oily and sticky which works well with this beer

O: Pond Hopper is an interesting hop-forward beer; I like it and it warms you up quickly--surprisingly so because the alcohol doesn't seem overwhelmingly present; but it has a somewhat odd hop profile but it does come together as a collaboration beer should (and often does not)

Pours a slightly hazed bronze with a pinky of beige head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Pineapple, not much else

T: Follows the nose, some grapefruit, some cakeyness hiding underneath up front. More pineapple, grapefruit, dryness & a touch of pear & white grape buried way down along with some more pronouced breadyness. Finishes with much grapefruit, pineapple & a nice juicy hop flavor

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, great balance

THe ABV is well hidden, this is a fairly assertive hop bomb, I really enjoyed this one> Not perfect, but damn close. I wonder if they actually sold any of this monster across the pond?
