a magic blended sour brown ale from odell, who is yet to let me down. this baby pours mahogany in color with extraordinary depth. there is a littl haze to it, and a small light brown head. the nose is very sour, brett, lacto, or both, and even some vinegar. there is also plenty of sweetness from caramel and chocolate malts. the flavor is very complex, and the first thing i noticed was how well the alcohol was hidden. there is also a lot of oaky notes to this. the sour element is fruity, like cherries, and very powerful. puckery like a lemon, but not acidic. the malt profile adds a nice layer of earthy fall flavors which are not usually present in these beers, and the mouthfeel is fantastic. lots of bright carbonation stings the mouth, and the body is bigger than medium. this is not an easy beer to make, but it is an excercise in patience and artistry. odell has hit the nail on the head with this one. its one of the better dark sour beers ive ever put tp my lips.

A really dark pour, looks black to me, with a 1 finger head of foam with some great lacing.

I get a big fruity tartness on first smell, second smell..some hints of chocolate and vanilla. Blimey, the label mentions the latter 2.

Fruity/vinegar sourness and vanilla up front in the taste. Some sugary sweetness mixed in there that is nice but confuses my palate somewhat. It finishes sour and gives me a blast of the alcohol.

On the upper end of medium bodied with lively carbonation, it's a good mouthfeel here and is pretty drinkable.

I think this is a very good take of, based on my limited experience with, the style. It's surely worth a try.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber brown with a medium creamy tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel and candy fruit with a sour twang. It's a little subdued.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts and fruit with a big sour (candy apple) twang. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice lacto sour. This is much more intense and more sour than the first bottle I had.

Nice three-finger, straw colored, loose foamed head. Brew is dark murky brown.

Smells acidic, lemon, orange, horsey, and grapefruit. Grassy.

Not nearly sour enough, IMO. Slight tartness, but no pucker factor. More barnyard funk then bite. Lots of horse blanket. Mostly dry and bitter. Carbonation is huge and well done. There's something in the brew that makes my head *twinge*

I thought Odell was going to finally ball-up and make a nice deep sour. Sad day. Recommended, but not as an extreme sour. Perfect 4.

Pours a deep dark brown with a big khaki head. A sweet and tart aroma of some vinegar, pitted fruits, brown sugar, and pumperknickle bread. Flavo followed suit with the addition of the oak barrel introducing itself as well. A medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, with age this beer improved significantly, IMO. Really good stuff now.
