Bottled in August 2012. Bottle #05861.
Poured in to snifter.

A - Hazy medium to dark orange; opaque. One finger of cream coloured head with good retention.

S - Hazy tropical fruit aroma with fresh papaya, guava and mango notes. A big woody aroma is present as well along with a hint of vanilla. Really unique and inviting nose.

T - A good bitterness up front with a nice tropical fruit bouquet of papaya, guava and mango. The barrel aging adds toasted oak and some vanilla. A touch of caramel sweetness in the background.

M - Medium body. Creamy. Light carbonation. Some stickiness.

O - The 750 ml of this went way too fast. Easy drinking and absolutely delicious. I am interested to try more of the mosaic hop.

Appearance: deep orange gold. Pours with a nice head that settles down quickly to a thin foam on the surface.

Aroma: fruit, perhaps orange and grapefruit with some sweet caramel notes form the malt.

Taste: delicious malt presence with a very nice vanilla from the oak. Some bitterness from the hops, that do not overpower the malt, but rather they support each other well. Interesting fruit flavors from the hops as well.

Mouthfeel: smooth, but with a nice bite form the medium level of carbonation. Medium-thick body.

Overall: this is quite simply another excellent ale form Odell. Enjoyable and delicious! I am well pleased. A complex beer, I'll be savoring this one for a while.

A: pours a deep cloudy amber with a two finger dense white head that is slow to fade with excellent lacing into a dogfish snifter
S: smells of cedar oil, pine, some tropical fruits, a hint of caramel, slightly herbal as well. great nose
T: woody flavor, some caramel, slight pine, a bit of toasted malt, tropical fruit and a bit more woodyness some cedar with a slight bitterness throughout. swallow brings a bit of caramel and a nice blast of tropical fruit, resin, pine, and a bit of sweet vanilla
M: smooth with soft carb from bottle conditioning, not too dry of a finish but the hops seem to coat well
O: a hugely complex and delicious American Strong Ale. I don't quite know what to make of it and it's a lot to take in. The mosaic hops bring some interesting flavors into the mix, the mouthfeel is very luxurious, the nose is phenomenal and the beer looks fantastic. An amazing beer and a pleasure to drink because the alcohol is very well hidden.

750 ml bottle, bottle no. 01749, date August 2012. Pours a hazy tea-like brown with a huge creamy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is green leafy tropical fruits and resiny fruity hops with a bit of dank stinkiness.

The flavor is sweet tropical fruits and light bready malts with some dry alcohol and piney, minty hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth, slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, this is my new favorite Woodcut. I personally don't get a lot of wood out of it (maybe a little vanilla), but a lot of tropical fruits and green, leafy, minty, piney hops.
