Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich, deep dark brown, nearly black; head is a finger of creamy brown foam. Very good indeed.

Smell: rich and chocolatey aroma; there's some sweetness here but it's not *too* sweet. I like the balance.

Taste: chocolatey with a little bit of roastiness present. A dash of vegetal hop flavor at the end, but it isn't so bad. Again, the sweetness is nicely balanced and not overwhelming. A very tasty chocolate stout.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body but with a good, well-integrated carbonation and a nicely smooth creaminess.

Overall: this beer appeals to me a lot. I feel like sweet stouts can often be too sweet, but here the balance works out very well. Highly drinkable for a big beer. (751 characters)

Look: Poured well, slightly thin, dark body and low tan head.

Smell: Not appealing, little chocolate notes but mostly very acidic hoppyness.

Taste: Very bitter chocolate, not extremely sweet, metallic finish. Bitter chocolate overpowers everything until the metallic finish.

Feel: Very smooth, slightly silky, fades decently quickly.

Overall: I did not enjoy this beer as much as I'd hoped. Fairly hard to drink for milk stout and not too flavorful. Very harsh alcohol taste the more you drink. (502 characters)

Had on tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl. L: Pours brilliant chestnut with a thin tan film for a cap.
S: Cocoa, espresso and malt.
T: Slightly sweet. The chocolate flavors are bigger than the aromas with balance from light roast flavors and hop bitterness.
F: Soft, smooth carbonation, medium to medium full body, but is a little thin for the beer. Light alcohol warming.
O: This is a very good beer that might benefit from some more heft. (438 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a pitch black color with a two-finger khaki colored creamy head that eventually reduces to a thin film floating on top

S- slightly charred roasted malt aroma mixes with notes of chocolate milk, malted milk balls, roasted nuts and underlying earthy hops

T- deep milk chocolate flavor up front mixes with charred malt and burnt caramel, sweet lactose gives a flavors of vanilla whipped cream, and seems to enhance the chocolate and caramel. Hints of dark cherry and coffee close it out with lingers of milk chocolate and char

M- medium-viscous body with moderate-low carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and a chewy velvety finish, high drinkability

O- hard to believe that this is 8.5%, as it has superior drinkability. Chocolaty, milky and full flavored, this is a fine milk stout (835 characters)

Pours black with ruby edges. Milk chocolate, light roast and a touch of booze. Definitely a solid chocolate milk stout. Amount of alcohol presence was off putting in an 8.5% for my tastes. (189 characters)

S: Chocolate, roasted malts, and some slight undertones of earthy hops.

T: Chocolate, milk, sweet malts, roasted malts, sugar, oatmeal, dark fruits, and a subtle earthiness..

M: Full bodied, moderately carbonated, smooth creamy stout.

O: A very solid chocolate milk stout. Odell knows how to please. (472 characters)

This is the best chocolate milk stout that I have tried. Perfect carbonation and texture. It has a strong chocolate flavor with a nice alcohol finish. I have tried MANY chocolate stouts trying to find better but have not found one yet. (235 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Almost pitch-black with a medium head of deep tan bubbles. Almost no lace.

Aroma: Mostly malts, with some cocoa. Not at all overpowering or heavy.

Taste: Sweet, roasty, with some smooth chocolate. Lugene is high in the burnt, charred malty side of things, with some alcohol warmth in the finish. Not quite as “chocolate milk” flavored as I’d hoped. Not bad, but not one I’d return to. (407 characters)

Luuuuuuuugene.

Appearance : This beer pours pretty dark. It's a very dark chocolate brown body; when held up to the light there's no transparency. The head is large, 3 fingers in measurement, and beige-to-almond in color. The head leaves very generous lingerie-like lacing along the side of the glass, a true beauty.

Aroma : Cocoa powder, cacao bean, slight anise, and a light astringency from hops but only underneath. Bouquet is medium strength and oh so yummy.

Flavor : Ummm...This is just out of this world good. Words fail me. I've just laid lips to what could be the best milk stout EVER. Ever. Gathering my thoughts and checking my emotions here...

Creamy, semi-sweet chocolate goodness mixed with a beautiful marriage of milk and oatmeal, ending with melty candy bar wrapper. The hop is subdued, allows a bit of a burn on the palate, just perfect.

Mouthfeel : An EXPLOSION of creamy, hot-cocoa-with-marshamallows-made-with-whole-milk body, a slight burn from alcohol, ending just slightly parched and tingling.

Overall : Just buy it. I'm not kidding. Best. Milk. Stout. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. (1,111 characters)

Appearance - The stout poured black with a tan head.

Smell - The nose was straight malts with little sense of chocolate.

Taste - At the front, baker's chocolate is evident. Notes of sweet berries and lactose sugar are present in the background. I found myself wanting more chocolate in this chocolate milk stout. The lactose is strong in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - The lactose gives a smooth impression with some carbonation.

Overall - I liked the beer but wanted way more chocolate. (492 characters)

This is a solid chocolate milk stout. It's not as exciting as I thought it would be but it was still extremely satisfying. Odell is a solid brewery and this is a solid brew. It's really smooth and not overly carbonated. Great mouthfeel, and thought its strong for a stout (8.5%) it's not overpowering. In fact, there wasn't a the alcohol bite you normally get from an 8.5% beer. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a stout that won't disappoint you. (452 characters)

Pours a black color with a two finger brown sugar color head. Aroma is roast, coffee, chocolate, and bittersweet chocolate. Taste is chocolate, light roast, and maybe a hint of coffee at the end. Mouthfeel is medium to medium-thick, a bit thinner than some stouts but that by no means takes away from this beer. Overall one of the better milk stouts I've had, and the chocolate makes it all the more so. (407 characters)

Appearance: Dark, almost black color, opaque. Nice two-finger brown head, good retention and lacing.
Smell: Sweet milk chocolate, dark roasted malt and some light coffee notes
Taste: Sweet milk chocolate up front, some nice coffee and dark roasty malt flavors on the back end.
Mouthfeel: Thick, smooth and silky, creamy, I could drink this all day!
Overall: Great tasting, nice aroma, hits all the right notes throughout. Pretty well made stout. (446 characters)

Side poured from the bottle into a Boulevard pint glass.

Appearance - Pours a deep, rich black, so dark that light has a difficult time penetrating the beer. Maintain a one finger head that displays decent retention and leaves a little bit of stankonia lacing on the side.

Smell - Dark roasted malts, breads, milky sweetness, chocolate, and sugar. A bit of coffee and vanilla as well.

Taste - Just like the nose! Maintains the milk chocolate/sweet stout style without overwhelming one with sweetness, although I certainly wouldn't add any more sweetening element. There is a mild bitter touch in all of that chocolate and milk.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, creamy, big. Favorite part of the beer.

Overall - Very good beer, if you like the style check it out. Condor recommended and approved. (791 characters)

Love when beer tastes exactly as advertised, tasted like drinking a Hershey bar, without being overly sweet on the tongue and wasn't to heavy, finished creamy yet also pretty carbonated, drank like a chocolate soda with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Really different and pretty delicious. big fan. (292 characters)

I'm drinking this for the second time in a week! 8.5% abv pours black with a medium brown head. Definite chocolate notes in the nose as well as roasted coffee. Tastes of milk chocolate without being sickly sweet and has coffee notes. Mouthfeel is a little thin but feels like you actually had a glass of chocolate milk. Drinks really easy for a nice abv %. This was just tapped at the Ginger Man here locally and can't wait to try it on draught! Cheers! (454 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a goblet.

A - Pours a inky black with a one-finger light brown head. Moderate lacing.

S - Dark roasted malts, chocolate milk, and a hint of dark fruit. Overall aroma is "mild".

T - Big milk chocolate notes forward. Nicely sweet. Some mild bitterness from the roast in the mid-palate. A hint of lactose sugars. Chocolate taste not at all artificial. Reminiscent of a rich chocolate cake. Very tasty. Warming alcohol in the finish.

M - Oh so smooth and creamy. Like drinking a milk shake. Full bodied, with soft carbonation. Drying, sticky finish. Amazing.

O - Nicely put together in all areas; excels in taste and feel. Probably the best chocolate stout I have had. So many of these taste like someone dumped cocoa into a beer. The depth and richness of flavor here stands out. (810 characters)

I rarely ever pour a beer out, and I love odell, but this is overwhelmingly sweet, so much so it tastes artificial. Like 2% milk mixed with nutrasweet. Really wanted to like this one. (183 characters)

If you let this beer age in the refrigerator for a year, a miracle will happen! It lost all of its alcohol taste, became a little more sweeter, and the chocolate was much more intense. The consistency seemed to be thicker as well, and so much smoother. Thought I was drinking a "Five Dollar Shake". This was one of the best Stouts I've ever had, only second to Stranahan's aged Yeti. (383 characters)

Poured from a bottle with a best by date of 5/24/14; into a pint glass.
Appearance - pours a dark brown. Sits black in the glass, but a bit of light comes through. A thin beige head that leaves sheets of lace!
Smell - very tame nose; some light roasted coffee beans and very little chocolate notes.
Taste - wow, wasn't expecting that after a ho hum nose...flavorful bittersweet chocolate, some vanilla cream!
Feel - mild body, very flavorful, bittersweet chocolate feel and very easy to drink for an 8.5% ABV stout!
Overall - a tasty stout; worth a try, but not something I'll seek out. (586 characters)

This is an excellent stout. Dark as night, packed with milk chocolate flavor, and high enough alcohol to really get your attention. Many stouts are bitter, but this one is not. Available in four-packs and a bit more expensive than most similar beers, but very much worth it. (277 characters)

Fairly light milk stout, very drinkable—even, I'd think, on a warm evening—but, best of all, the layers of chocolate shine through much clearer and cleaner than many other chocolate-premised stouts I've had. Nice sweetness, toeing the line nicely between clean and cloying—and aided in this by the very detectable presence of the chocolate notes and their attendant bitterness. Not much nose, outside of dry malty sugars and the faintest hint of lactose carried though out of the tulip's curve. Very dark, and slightly mahogany-brown when held to light, this somewhat still, light mouth-feel stout seems to fairly well achieve its ends—though I think, given the sweetness, it'd pair much better with a hunk of meat than a dessert. (738 characters)

Everything about this beer is great, especially for such a low priced offering (10 bucks a 4 pack or so)! Look, smell, taste and mouthfeel all scream milk chocolate, as opposed to the dark chocolate most beers shoot for. One of my absolute favorite chocolate beers! (267 characters)

Thick and dark with a nice amber head, though it doesn't stay around very long. This is the best chocolate stout I have had to date, and my personal favorite beer as of yet. Odell does it right. My only problem with this beer is that it is a 4 pack seasonal :(... (263 characters)

Looks like a porter, smells like a porter (anyone who can school me in how to better rate porters based on appearance, feel free to BM me). Extra points on appearance because I love the label - makes me hungry for chocolate and milk, which made the beer irresistible.
The taste is great, it's an awesome porter, but I'm suspicious that the brewers were able to hide behind the milk/chocolate notes, the way a guitarist might hide behind his effects pedals... I think it's awesome, but I also think I expected more... and based upon the kick-ass label, I don't think that's unreasonable! I'm just an ignorant consumer, after all...
As far as mouthfeel is concerned, I feel like it's got the mouthfeel of a typical porter - I'm usually not a fan, but it works with this beers sweetness, so I'm happy with it.

Overall, it's a good beer, but if it were available in my market I don't think I would buy it very often. Very happy to have gotten to try it, and hopefully we get it here soon (because I DO like it, and I WOULD buy it, just not all the time).

Thanks again to CreepinJeeper for this awesome extra!

BIG TIME EDIT: I just realized this beer is classified as a stout... I know that porters are stouts, and stouts are porters, but this changes things. This is a little weak for a stout. Too carbonated, too light. Still Good. Carry on. (1,341 characters)
