Dusting out the old stash, found another one of these tucked away from a few months back.
Pours a very deep black/brown, doesn't let much light through at all. Foams a rich chocolaty brown head and dissipates down pretty quickly.
Smells of chocolate, what can I say? Not a sweet sweet chocolate but a run of the mill sort of dark chocolate with some sweetness. A char smell to it with hints of vanilla and a bit of caramel malt. You get almost an herbal hop mixed into the blend. Pretty nice and quite inviting. Reminds me a tad of chalky cocoa.
Taste is reminiscent of malted milk balls with the milk chocolate over it. Isn't super sweet which is nice and chocolate is well blended with this roasty character and a hint of booze. A fair amount of dry caramel and vanilla. A touch of coffee.
Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit warming from the booze. I would place it in the medium to slightly above range on weight. A creamy sort of characteristic with a hint of dry chalkiness.
Overall, pretty nice. Not the best chocolate stout in my opinion, but definitely one of the better ones that has an actual milk chocolate taste to it and is balanced with a perfect amount of sweetness. I could sit around on a cold winters night and drink a couple no problem. It's smooth and pleasant and not pushy, definitely worth a try... and in a try I mean you might as well buy a four pack.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Black with some transparency at the edges. Small khaki head. A few islands of foam. Thin collar.
Smell - Chocolatey aroma. Light roast. Super chocolatey.
Taste - Chocolate is strongest. Roasted malt. Sweet lactose finish. Dominated by chocolate.
Mouthfeel - A little sweet. Medium carbonation. Lactosey.
Overall - I don't love the style, but this has a great chocolate flavor.

Lugene pours a black color, with very little head at all. There is a boozy chocolate like aroma. The taste is a nice chocolate flavor, wwith a strong "milk" or lactose sugar flavor, a lot of the alcohol comes through as well. Good full flavors, nice body, crisp carbonation. Overall its a boozier chocolaty stout.

poured from the bottle into a pint glass
A - Pours a used motor oil black with just the faintest of ruby highlights. Capped by a fizzy, two-finger, tan head. Head is completely gone about halfway down the glass. Leaves behind a few small drips of lacing.
S - A little bit of chocolate milk upon opening the bottle. Not as complex or strong as anticipated. In the glass things get better with more chocolate milk, freshly backed brownies and a hint of caramel.
T - Chocolate milk upfront as promised. The body is is rich and complex with the chocolate malt backbone being supplemented by cane sugar, brownies and bit of earthy hop bitterness to provide some measure of opposition against the dominant sweetness. Dark fruit and a bit of alcohol come through as the beer passes over the back of the tongue, before leading to candied plum saturated in rum and covered in chocolate finish.
M - On the light side of full bodied with carbonation that seems more lively than creamy. Overall, I thought the carbonation in this beer was too soda like, causing the beer not to have the characteristic creamy head and mouthfeel I expect in a stout.
I enjoy Left hands milk stout, so I thought I would really be happy with this "Imperial" Milk Stout. I like the flavor profile: it is sweet, rich, and complex as hopped for and of course you can sense the alcohol at 8.5% abv. However, all other aspects of the beer fall short: the aroma isn't particularly inspiring and the carbonation is way too fizzy. Not only does this give the beer a head more reminiscent of a soda than a craft-Stout, but the mouthfeel is no longer creamy. Perhaps doing this on Nitro would correct that. For me this is a solid brew, but not quite good good enough to warrant purchasing another premium-priced 4-pack in the near future.

Pours a dark brown with minimal head. Pours just like a flat coke. There are tons of floating things in here. They're kind of hard. I'm almost afraid to sip it.
Smells kind of like a flat vanilla coke. It has a weird smell in the background as well. Still kind of scared.
Taste is alcohol with a little bit of coke flavor. Not picking up chocolate or vanilla or anything.
Way too carbonated for the style. Really poor.
Hated this beer. I think I may have gotten a bad bottle but oh well.

Great looking label with a little background story.
Off white head, which quickly dissipated to nothing.
Smelt alot like a mocha coffee.
Taste of coffee beans and liquorice. Not as sweet as I was expecting, and still quite bitter.
Went very well with a chocolate cheesecake.
