Pours smooth and black with tints of cola brown and a mocha colored finger high head. Retention is average and leaves nearly no lacing.

Notable sweetness with lots of milk sugar and milk chocolate aroma somewhat artificial and roasty. Undertones of tree nuts, hints of vanilla and smoke.

Decadent, sweet chocolate and roasted malt with notes of licorice and prunes. Finishes a more roast, lactic sweetness and a mild bitterness that lightens up the sugar.

Syrupy and muted carbonation, slightly creamy but it makes the beer really feel heavy. Alcohol goes back into it's shell as the beer warms up.

Sweet stout, really pairs well with desserts or as one. The chocolate notes are spot on and deliver what is promised on the label. Slow sipper and falls right in line with the other good offerings in the Odell series.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Best by date of 5/2/2013.

Appearance: Pours a dark blackish brown with a fair amount of rising bubbles. About two fingers of deep tan head that fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a good amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very roasty and fairly sweet dark stout aroma. Dark roasted malts with big hints of dark and milk chocolate, toast, cream, coffee, burnt caramel, toffee, nuts, and yeast. Also some hints of vanilla and smoked malt. Subtle hints of molasses and dark raisin and fig. Hops are laid back with some earthy hints. A very nice rich and creamy chocolate driven aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints, a nice roasty and sweet chocolate and milk driven taste. Dark roasted malts with a good taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, cream, toasted bread, coffee, caramel, toffee, yeast, nuts, and some smoked malt. Some sweet vanilla and molasses sugars as well. Subtle notes of dark fruit including raisin, fig, and prune. A light bitter taste of earthy hops come in towards the finish. A very good sweet chocolate stout taste that is well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy and somewhat roasty and syrupy. Alcohol is masked very well.

Overall: A really good sweet/milk stout. Good creamy chocolate flavor with a moderate sweetness. Really nailed the style.

12oz bottle seved chilled into a goblet.

Lugene is a very dark brown color with nice clarity. The head is minimal and no lacing is left behind.

Aroma is sweet and rich with chocolate.

Flavor is wonderfully sweet and creamy like a roasty chocolate milk. It has sweetness of a milk chocolate bar with just a hint of bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. It is super smooth and creamy with barely a hint of alcohol.

Overall a really great milk stout.

From a 355 ml bottle (best before May 29, 2013) into a snifter.

A-The brew pours thick and black. I cannot see any carbonation in there. The head is thin, pretty quick to fade to ring, and dark brown in color.

S-Aside from the chocolate and roasted flavors you would expect (though the chocolate is not overpowering), this brew has something else going on. I cannot quite place my finger on the aroma...it is almost like a nutty liquor (Tuaca, maybe?). Nevertheless, the scent is pretty concentrated and you know you're in for a pretty big beer after one whiff.

T-The taste follows the smell pretty closely. There is a nice, intense combination of rich chocolate and lactic sweetness up front, with a mildly bitter roasted character on the mid-palate and finish. The chocolate flavors (milky and semi-sweet) grow on you as the beer warms to room temp.

M-Carbonation is lighter, but not totally absent. The brew has a medium to heavy body. This one is a sipper.

O-I like this beer, but it is suffering from something of an identity crisis. When I think of milk stouts, I think of lower ABV, creamier style beers. This brew, however, drinks more like a chocolate-infused RIS than a sweet/milk stout. The flavors here are intense and the alcohol is vocal, and while these are not bad things, I found myself looking for a bit more subtlety and nuance.

I poured this from the bottle into a mug.

The only reason I gave it below a 5 for appearance is because it lacked a head....none! But it poured thick and I could tell right away it was gonna be a creamy, thick stout.

Smells like sweet smokey chocolate.

It is massively sweet. It is everything that I expected, and you can taste the stout behind all of the chocolate. The only drawback is, it is a little too sweet. It would be hard for me to drink more than one. That said, I'm glad I got it and I really enjoyed it.

Mouthfeel is great. It's thick and carbonation is just right. (low)

Overall, I really liked it. It is the sweetest beer I have had yet, which is to a degree that is its only downfall. Very good though.
