Must is to wine as wort is to beer; the primordial ooze, the source and foundation, that feeds the process of fermentation we all love so much. Amuste is the culmination of a two year endeavor to marry these two fuels into the same fire. An Imperial Porter aged in oak wine barrels accented with juice with Tempranillo grapes grown on the Western Slope of Colorado, this harmonic carbonation is truly, a must.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a dark, murky brown (no light comes through with backlighting...only a faint hint of purple at the edges). 1-2 inch light tan head with good retention.
S: Cocoa, sweet caramel, cola, and grape notes.
T: Dark berries, roasted caramel, baker's chocolate, cola, and soft oaky vanilla. The wine-like quality lays gently on top of everything and imbues all taste notes.
M: Soft and creamy up front. Turns more toward a tannic firmness midway through. Sweet and dry finish. Medium body. Lingers and matures nicely on the palate.
D: Initially, this one came across a bit jumbled. However, with time to sort it all out as well as warming, the true appreciation of this brew came to light. A superb example of what aging in wine barrels (as well as augmentation with grape juice) can add to the right brew.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.
Pitch black liquid; slight purple when held to the light.
Dark khaki head; nice, if spotty, lace.
Red wine & chocolate in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Red wine up front, but as this warms chocolate asserts itself as the brew warmed up. I had it on draft once & liked it even more...

Pours an opaque black with a one finger cream color head. Aroma is bright white wine grapes mixed with dark fruits and a hint of caramel/toffee. Taste follows with dark fruit, toffee, white wine flavor, and a hint of candi sugar like sweetness with a hint of nutiness and oak. Mouthfeel is smooth and mouthcoating. Overall, this is an excellent take on a porter. Odell is a great, great brewery?
