damn you odell! you had a real opportunity here to blow my mind, to be the first to make a peach beer actually taste like real peaches, and to combine it with the lovely hop complexity of an imperial ipa, but you failed. you failed! I anticipated this as much as anything since beer geek brunch, and I wanted it to be so many things. instead, its an overly alcoholic tropical fruit flavored ipa that isn't even as good as the myrcenary (which is excellent by the way). it pours a radiant orange color, quite hazy and dense, with an inch of white soapy suds on top, lots of promise from the appearance. the nose is very alcoholic, with some tropic fruit before the hops kicks in, pineapples and mangoes come to mind, but we all agreed that we couldn't pick out any peach distinctly. there is quite a bit of hops to this, some bitterness towards the finish, but more oily fruity hops up front, not dissimilar to the mosaic hop profile in their woodcut 6 (also outstanding). at the end of the day though, this was just another sort of fruity ipa, it lacked that fresh peach kick I really wanted, and I think this beer leaves so much to be desired in that regard. under another name, I might like this a lot more. good feel though, medium body and super active carbonation, I just wish the alcohol wasn't so strong, it really does burn a little on the way down. props for not letting the beer get too sweet, but this was way below my expectations. maybe someday ill find a peach beer that tastes like peaches, but it isn't this.

I tried this for the first time at an Odell beer dinner at Butcher and the Boar a few years back and stands out as the first IPA that my wife actually drank a whole glass of.

Aroma is zingy and full of citrus and sweet malt. As it warms up I get more peach or apricot aroma that stands out.

Appearance is very clear golden color with a huge thick white head.

Flavor is very sweet and sugary up front. Fades to a tropical fruit (mango) and peach finish. There is a hint of astringency in the finish but still borders on too sweet at the end. This year's batch seems sweeter than I remember, but may be why Sj will drink it.

Overall not bad, and a very interesting take on a fruit beer. I'm always excited to try anything other than a wheat fruit beer! Peach is a pretty subtle flavor and I think they pulled it off in this beer. I can't drink too much of this due to the sweetness.
