Celastrina, or Hops Blue, is a tiny blue butterfly found living on wild hop plants along the Front Range of Colorado. Little is known about this rare species, but we hope to change that. Celastrina Saison pays tribute to this winged creature with delicate hints of banana and clove-like flavor, typical of a traditional Saison, that flutter with a subtle spice character derived only from the hops used. $1 from each bottle sold will go to the Colorado Natural Heritage Program to help fund research of the Hops Blue butterfly.

A-Pours a darker yellow. Mostly clear bodied. Big, sudsy head. Also the cork almost took out my eye when opening.
S-Smells a bit phenolic. Quite floral. Some banana. Also some apple juice. Lightly spicy.
T-Sweet with some grassy hops. Just as phenolic as the nose. Some lighter honey flavor. Plenty of floral flavors. Bananas. Some breadiness and finishing spice.
M-Medium bodied. Softer carbonation. A little bit creamy. Hint of booze.
O-Mostly tasty. Nothing groundbreaking here.

Sometimes I'm cool with bringing a beer that doesn't fit in at a festival, and then sometimes I'm like WTF bro. This one showed up at the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild festival in Chico, CA.
Light amber colored pour, expected lighter for a saison, looks like a crystal malt ibu wars era beer with 1/2" head and good retention. The aroma hit all the saison/hefeweizen boxes, banana, clove, spice rack phenolics and a hearty whiff of alcohol. I guess this is a 'big' saison.
Taste is much the same, big blast of alcohol, then all the phenolic yeast hits behind that, so you're rocked with a good 1-2 combination right out the gate. Where is the levity and workman like ease of a table beer? Not here. Its even got an amped up bitterness for style. Just call this an imperial saison so I know to avoid like its a warning sign. Carbonation lower for style increasing all the detractions going on. Perhaps at another venue or time, this might show itself to have some niche value, but not on a hot day, it did not.

Pours a nice golden colour with two thumbs of bug bubbled head with solid retention and sporadic lacing. Sweet yeast esthers, hints of bubble gum and oak, and toasted bread. Some sweet candied lemon, toasted grain malts, hints of bitter citrus rind and some musty green hops. A solid saison with a well concealed abv and solid flavour profile.

From notes. L: Pours hazy straw under a voluminous clingy, persistent 3” off-white foam collar that rises up over the rim of the glass.
S: Fruity, spicy, herbal, flowery with traces of malt and a touch of fresh compost.
T: Fuity, sour dough bread, over ripe fruit, finishes dry.
F: Creamy, medium to medium light body, medium high carbonation.
O: Odell has done some nice work with the yeast to produce very luscious light fruit flavors.

Had on tap at the Yard House in Denver. Best brew I had that day.
