This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Celastrina, or Hops Blue, is a tiny blue butterfly found living on wild hop plants along the Front Range of Colorado. Little is known about this rare species, but we hope to change that. Celastrina Saison pays tribute to this winged creature with delicate hints of banana and clove-like flavor, typical of a traditional Saison, that flutter with a subtle spice character derived only from the hops used. $1 from each bottle sold will go to the Colorado Natural Heritage Program to help fund research of the Hops Blue butterfly.

Served in a Boulevard tulip glass.

Man, I was kinda hoping this beer was made butterflies... What does that say about me? Anyway, this stuff pours a partly-cloudy golden-brass topped by a finger if lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises damp wheat, light earthy greens, light clove, mild citrus zest, and a pinch of cardamom. The taste brings in more of the same, with an emphasis on the Belgian yeast spice. Things are earthy enough that I'd swear this stuff actually came from Belgium. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a pretty solid saison. No complaints. 'Nuff said.

Poured from 750mL c&c into duvel tulip.

A- Pours a hazy gold, thin white head. Nice looking, weak lacing, head retreats to a white ring.

S- Light citrus and spice, subtle hop notes, not too overpowering.

T- Saison yeast spices, a little pepper. Some citrus comes in from the yeast as well as the hops. Tastes smooth, nice and dry finish. I could drink this one all summer.

M- light mouthfeel, carbbed nicely, the dry nature of the beer and the carbonation clean the hops from the palate quickly.

O- great offering from Odell. Looks good, and impresses more and more through the evening. I'm looking forward to drinking this one all summer long!

Jeepers, look at the foam! Big white cap on this guy. Lacing is sticky in spots. Foam settles to a flim and collar

Aroma: I just don't get the banana stated on the label. Clove, yes; nanner, no. A bit floral. Some light hoppy spice. Perhaps white pepper. A bit of lemon and papaya.

Flavor mirrors the aroma. Sharp citrus and green grass. Honeysuckle. Clove a bit, light biscuit.

I think I'd enjoy this beer more (and I do like it) if the slick feel weren't there. It's kinda oily or something. Velvet? No, maybe not. Not sure what it is b/c the bubbles and carbonation are fine. Just not as dry as it seems. What am I talking about? Someone help me out...

Good porch beer maybe with some hard cheese....mmmm...cheese

750mL C&C bottle poured into snifter

A – Beautiful beer, bright honeyed orange in color. Head is big, fluffy, and bright white. Settles to a 1/4" layer and leaves great thick lacing down the inside of the glass.

S – Fruity, fragrant, and bright. Big lemon, wildflower, and light yeast notes. Hops make an appearance too, piney and juicy.

T – Lemon, spice, and yeast notes here. More wildflower honey sweetness, and crisp, clean hops. Has great complexity. Light banana notes come through here, as well as a clove/anise spiciness. Balance is impeccable.

M – Quite dry and champagne like, carbonation is high, but it leads to a tremendously crisp and clean mouthfeel. Finish is lingering and brings notes of fresh lemon, and pepper.

O – Great Saison, nice to see Odell try their hand at this style. It stands up to some of the best I've had. This one stands out for its great balance and depth of complex flavors, as well as for its noticeable hoppiness that is not found in others of the style. Worth seeking out.
