341ml bottle, day 17 of the Phillips Snowcase Calendar. Also available in a recent Showcase mixed pack, I believe.

This beer pours a crystal clear, dark red brick brown hue, with two fingers of softly foamy, somewhat silken, and mildly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some drooping tendril lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of lightly roasted caramel malt, an oily nuttiness, some further cereal graininess, dry cocoa, a hint of day-old coffee, and bitter leafy, weedy hops. The taste is biscuity caramel malt, a laid-back mocha cafe essence, some mild hard water flintiness, a touch of yeast, and earthy, grassy hops. Simple, but agreeable.

The carbonation is a bit peppy, but mostly just supportive and subtly fizzy, the body a decent medium wight, generally smooth, and ethereally creamy, of the air-infused sort. It finishes off-dry, the nutty malt, chocolate notes, and sedate hops still playing it out that way.

Like many things from this particular island, there's an American/English hybrid thing going on here - the hops are present, but restrained enough to let the biscuity malt shine on its own. Not sure what the name of this offering is referencing, but if you're a fan of brown ales, this one is worthy of a try, if you can overcome its difficulty to come by.

Never seen this beer before but it came in the Snowcase mixed advent calendar. It is a simple Brown ale that hits the marks with mouth feel and the balance between hops and malt. Actually tastes a lot like Dr Funk with an ale base. The finish is not too sweet and the toasty caramel notes work well as expected from the style. It sits somewhere in between British and PNW in profile. Nice beer that hopefully is seen again.
