341ml bottle. Showcase variety pack fodder here in Alberta.

This beer pours a clear ruddy amber hue, with two chubby fingers of filmy, foamy, and ok, dammit, creamy eggshell white head, which leaves a few instances of drooping archway lace around the glass as it peels it out of town.

It smells of roasted nutty caramel malt, some prominent biscuit edginess poking in, with a nice complement of fruity, dusty hops joining the fray. The taste is more sweet caramel malt, moderated by a multi-varied nuttiness, soft dusty graininess, and decent orchard fruitiness.

The real star here, is, of course, the slickly smooth, and yes, oh hell yes, creamy (bubbles? sure, they're there, but only in the service of the...wait for it - sultry) body. This aspect is readily discernible from the get-go, and it's a heady adjunct to the smoothness, one which is actually dissection-worthy in its own right. It finishes on the sweet side, the nutty malt and citrus-tinged leafy hops continuing to play well together.

Too many so-called cream ales (Canada - I'm looking right at you, dudes) fall short on that most basic of tenets - they just don't have that smooth, and well, creamy essence of bearing, a characteristic which this offering obviously does not lack. Add to it the nice English bittering hop notes, and we have quite the eminently quaffable bevy.

A - clear copper brown with one thump of head that retained and laced okay
S - sweet caramel and bready malts, with some resin and floral type hops scents
T - the bready and sweet malts are nice up front, then the florals with hints of licorice and toffee
M - medium bodied, with some of the creamy full aspects expected, a subtle dry on the finish
D - cream ale smoothness and good flavour balance, a good brew that goes down easy enough

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a large bubbly head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of light cereal notes and dry grain is OK. Taste is dominated by grainy notes with light cereal. Body is about average with good carbonation and a light creamy texture. Quite bland and not even something I would drink as a session.

A - Pours a slightly hazy copper with an amber hue, thin layer of head, no real retention and no real lacing.

S - This one is quite nutty with roasted almonds dominating the scent, a bit of a floral hop follows and some caramel on the finish.

T - Again, the flavour is quite nutty with roasted almonds off the top, followed by some chocolate malts, and the slightest leafy hop on the finish. The taste of toasted sesame seeds lingers on the palette as well. Quite nice.

M - Mouthfeel is light and smooth. Finish was nice as well, not overly dry.

D - This is one of the better offerings in their summer mixer pack for sure. The flavours are unique and provide for a memorable experience. Mild enough that it's easily sessionable, strong enough that it leaves you wanting more.

Appearance- Pours a warm amber hue with a half finger of bubbly head.

Smell- caramel, brown sugar, and nutty aromas.

Taste- Pretty much the same as the aromas and a pleasant tartness.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with light carbonation. Smooth and slight creaminess to the feel.

Overall- An enjoyable cream ale by Phillips. Its one of the better representations of a cream ale I've sampled in a while.

Phillips Slipstream pours a medium brown with a small head that fades fairly quickly. The aroma is grainy, with some nice nutty, toasted malt character and a hint of damp earthy hops. The dry, toasted malt character leads the way in the flavor, with a slight fruitiness in the finish. Overall the beer seems a bit thin, but has plenty of flavor for a cream ale.

A - Pours a clear light gold brown. Finger of off white head, down to lacing.

S - Caramel malt and earthy hops.

T - Big toffee flavor. A bit nutty, not much hop flavor, but a clean bitterness is present.

M - Not quite creamy enough for my liking. Could go down a bit in carbonation I think.

D - Good drinkability. The taste is nice and complex, so the beer doesn't get boring.

341mlo bottle poured into pint glass 30/5/12

A clear pale copper with few bubbles and just a short lived foam that leaves one thick ring of lace where it existed

S hoppy chocolate malt and the Phillips taste I can't figure out, slightly nutty with a little sweetness

T a little nutty caramel and milk chocolate, mimics the smell pretty well

M medium bodied and I have no clue where all the bubbles came from because there's lots in the mouth but practically none visible

O not a bad beer but lacking a little punch, fairly tame but pretty drinkable

I wasn't expecting chocolate but then again I never know what to expect anymore. I doubt I'd buy a 6er but I'm sure the 3 in my mixer will get drank without issues
