A- Pours a slightly hazy yellow, with a frothy white head.

S- I get piney hops and citrus with every whiff of this beer.

T- Citrus/pine hops upfront, with a residual sweetness at the end. Not too bitter, but just enough to keep me wanting more. Dank finish.

M- This is where the beer really excels-- a creamy but light body, with a sparkly carbonation gives this one maximum quaffability.

O- This beer does exactly what it is supposed to do and is, in my opinion, a perfect representation of the style. When I want to knock back a sixer before a night out, this is what I buy. Not boring by any means, and should be reviewed for what it is.

Certainly looks like a so-called ISA, very light golden yellow brew with ample white foam. Smells like classic Phillips hops and yeast albeit more bright and vibrant as opposed to dank and weedy, although certainly some of the latter character is present. Bright citrus fruit bowl aroma with a few tropical notes. Smooth and creamy with a pleasantly moderate degree of fizz and a thin enough body to drink in quantity, like many blonde ales, but hopped more aggressively of course. Sweet honey malt provides the backbone while fruity, weedy hops lead the way. I get some interesting flavors in this, grapes and cherries along with the more typical sweet iced tea/citrus flavors and pine, although the latter is downplayed compared to other Phillips IPAs. Not terribly astringent but full of rich hop flavor nonetheless, coupled to a nigh-perfect level of malty sweetness to provide balance. Some may wonder at my high ratings but I feel Phillips nailed what they were trying to do here and damn straight I'd session this.

A - Bottle Rocket is an only slightly hazy pale golden colore. It's somewhere between honey colored and ripe straw. Head is dense, white and lasting.

S - Bottle Rocket's aroma starts out with the up front pine resin aroma of hops. Beneath that is a spicy, honeyed aroma. Honey becomes more caramel oriented as we move into the aroma's center. Bottle Rocket's nose turns back towards hops in the finish, giving pine resin coupled with aromas of fresh cut grass.

T - At first blush Bottle Rocket's flavor seems fairly straightforward. Body is medium - light and starts across my tongue with the spicy honey notes I found in the nose. Center comes out with a subtle combination of caramel and bready malts. Bottle Rocket's finish is full of pine resin hops, practically smacking the back of my tongue.

O - Overall, not bad. Even though its profile seems straightforward at first this is a very solid pale ale. Its honeyed and malt qualities provide sweetness and flavor that stand up well to the hoppy finish.

Man, I don't know what's with the low(ish) ratings on this beer. Maybe it sucked a while back or something, but I think it's one of the finest offerings from Phillips at the moment. Sure, yeah, it's one-dimensional. It's supposed to be a sessionable IPA type thing. Sessionable beers generally aren't the most intricate things you've ever tasted.

In any case, I found this to be one of the most flavorful session beers I've tried yet. The hop profile is pretty great - very floral and aromatic and punchy for a 5% ABV beer. Body is light and crisp, making this beer drinkable as hell. Again, this is not a sipper. There ain't no great complexity involved: there's a ton of hops backed by a fairly decent malt/yeast body that will probably seem very familiar if you've had a hoppy Phillips beer before. Honestly, I could argue that it seems almost stale at this point to use the same malt / yeast profile for almost all their hoppy beers, but I'm not going to do it in this case. It serves its purpose quite admirably, which is to provide a vehicle for the hops to take charge.

Honestly, when I'm in the mood for a drinking a six-pack over the course of an evening, this is what I tend to go for. Crisp/light body means you won't be bloated, 5% abv content means you won't be shitfaced. How could you possibly go wrong? You can't, imho. Unless you somehow stumble upon an older batch, because the cans don't have a canning/best by date on them. Ehhh, still, this beer is good enough when fresh that I'm willing to take the chance of a random stale six-pack.

12oz Can received in trade with Rejtable - thanks!

Appearance - Clear gold colour with an average size off white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, hops, grains, citrus, a mustiness

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and grassy hops. There is also a bit some light citrus and some breads/grains.

Overall - A very drinkable beer with just enough flavour to keep it light yet interesting. Definitely something I'd buy again if readily available to me. The one draw back is some sort off odd musty type smell going on.. but it's very light.
