In hindsight mosiac might be a bit of an undersell...and here's why..

An IPA that looks lagerish in comparsion to the norm...clear, deep amber...did I mention perfectly clear??? lol

Lot's of pine resin, citrus, and hints of fruitiness.

Big old punch of hop up front as one would expect...the twist, which I loved, was in the tropical fruits...mango, papaya, kiwi in a flavour wave that this reviewer was NOT expecting.

An excellent twist on a style that has been there and done that

650ml bottle, with a rather unorthodox shape, one more reminiscent of gin packaging than beer. Also, I'm not sure that this is any different from the the Growhop Mosaic IPA from a few months back, as the ingredients and ABV are identical.

This beer pours a crystal clear, medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of foamy, densely puffy, cushioned eggshell white head, which leaves a decent vista of ski slope lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.

It smells of rather meaty orange and grapefruit flesh, musty guava and overripe pineapple, grainy pale malt, a middling wet stone minerality, and further leafy, floral hops. The taste is more of the same - subdued pithy, bitter citrus rind, unsettled, nondenominational tropical fruit, crackery pale malt, with a slight hint of dried caramel, warming spa rocks, and earthy, astringently leafy hops.

The carbonation is tame, a tad frizzy, and mostly just somewhat frothy, the body medium-light in weight, and generally plain in its smoothness. It finishes fairly dry, the bitterness of the Mosaic hop creeping up, with any attendant fruitiness going nearly dark, and the malt not about to give up its spot in the shadows.

I'm not certain that of the many Growhop IPAs, that this was the one to go full-production with. The hops are just not full, crisp, or unbridled enough - I find the urge to scrape my tongue a little too dire here. Not bad, but there are better IPAs out there, even from this same brewer.

Funky bottle!

Appearance. Pours a light gold-amber with two fingers of cream coloured head.

Smell. Papaya and mango, grapefruit, some grainy malt and a touch of green onion.

Taste. Light tropical fruits and grapefruit, some grassy hops, a bit of grainy malts underneath, and again a touch of green onion.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, below medium carbonation.

Overall. Not a bad brew. Lots of decent hops but the slight green onion taste didn't agree with me.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of mango and tropical hops is quite nice and refreshing. Taste is also dominated by mango and peach notes with tropical fruit notes overtaking most of the flavour profile. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice showing of NZ tropical hops with light sweet malt backbone.

A: golden amber with orange; translucent
S: big, aggressive hops, pine
T: very surprising: bitter, green, stemmy, aggressive, not much else really ... grapefruit pith... like chewing raw hops ... not subtle or complex ... little maltiness
M; medium bodied
O: too one dimensional and "in your face" for my liking.

Poured into a Sam Adams Boston Lager glass...

A) A big white frothy head that leaves a nice layer of lacing on the glass. Colour is rich gold.

S) This is a ruby grapefruit bomb! Loads of citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. Some faint light maltiness in the background

T) Follows the nose, loads of grapefruit and citrus, hints of pineapple, mango and tropical fruit that cover that light graininess.

M) Dry but with a bit of sweetness upfront that balances out the slightly bitter finish. Well balanced, with a lighter body.

O) A tropical fruit bomb that delivers a boatload of Mosaic hops. It is well balanced, not too bitter, not too sweet with a nice moderate carbonation. A great, summer beer!

A: Nice and pale, a light copper color with great clarity and super tenacious head. Beautiful looking IPA.

S: Very unique and pungent hoppy nose - Mosaic is a very distinct hop. Lemon zest, blueberries, melon rind, a huge vase of Lily's, basil, tangerine, a bit of coconut?

T: My bottle seems slightly metallic but otherwise just a bouquet of lovely Mosaic hops. Berries are prominent.

M: Medium/light bodied with a quick finish. Not particularly bitter. Very nice IPA from Phillips.

Phillip's Brewing 'Kaleidoscope IPA' @ 6.5% , originally tasted on tap/cask at HOPoxia , this review from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $6.50

A-pour is a pale clear gold from bottle to glass with a good size white head leaving a streaky lace along the stein

S-mosaic hops famous for citrus , tropical fruit smell

T-smooth and sweet to start followed by a bitterness , almost pleasant tasting , surprisingly balanced IPA

MF-ok/medium carbonation , medium body

Ov-not the biggest nose (floral/citrus) or that sharp bitterness that can kill an IPA for me , there is a certain smoothness to Kaleidoscope that I like

650ml bottle.

Appearance- Pours an amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell- tropical fruits (passion fruit, pineapple), mosaic hops, touch of toffee. Nice tropical aromas.

Taste- Nice punch of mosaic hops (tangerine, guava) and hint of toffee.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall- This is my second go at an American IPA brewed with Mosaic hops. Phillips did a good job with this one especially with the aromas.

Thanks to Chris F. for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours a clear golden-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, earth, and berry aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, earth, and berry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but there is a better hop presence in the aroma in my opinion.

Serving type: bottle.

650ml bottle poured into tulip 16/7/13

A clear golden liquid with tiny bubbles floating up to a two finger cream colored foam that sits around for a few sips leaving a couple random patches

S nice tropical nose with some passion fruit, pineapple, guava, tangerine, lemon and grapefruit, just a little pine and just a little booze and hard toffee

T earthy notes I can't quite place and more rind compared to the flesh on the nose, still lots of tropical citrus but slightly toned down compared to the nose

M medium bodied, a bitter bite and a little grit left behind, lots of rind and pine on the finish

O I'm liking this one and no Phillips house much to my surprise, a nice tropical IPA that I'll probably drink again considering its reasonable price tag

Not a bad first experience with this new hop, pretty solid IPA from Phillips and it doesn't have that familiar house profile that isn't necessarily a bad thing but a bit of a surprise to me
