Notes/Commercial Description:
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience.

Hardywood Singel's stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

A: The beer is slightly hazy pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high bright white head that has excellent retention properties and hardly died down.
S: Light aromas of Belgian yeast are present in the nose along with some hints of pale malts.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some notes of peppery spices and hints of candi sugars.
M: It feels light- to medium- bodied and a little dry on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but seems to be a little malty for the style.

Hardywood Singel
on tap @ Franklins, Phila., PA 21 November 14

Notes: Hazy golden body. Limited head and lacing (probably due to a dirty bar glass, because God knows the place where your paying for a clean glass is actually the last place you'll find one!). Floral, grass/straw, gently candyish malt, yeast, and mild citrus in the aroma. Flavor is fuller with more fruit: apple, grape, orange. Solid bitterness leads to a dry finish. Medium bodied and crisp. Well balanced. Probably easy to overlook this beer in todays market where flavors are SO pronounced.

Good one!!! A number of Belgian Pale Ales are kind of wimpy without a pronounced flavor. This one is subtle but still impressive. Pours a bright golden, clear color with a medium size bubbly white head. Plenty of carbonation, the head faces fairly fast but leaves a light covering on the top of the glass.

Aroma is pretty good, some lemon zest and yeast. Flavor is very good, a little malt, tons of Belgian yeast flavor, some lemon zest and a little tropical fruit (probably from hops).

Nice light carbonated mouthfeel. There is richness from the flavor but overall its a kind of summery and easy to drink

12 oz bottle poured into a pub-style pint glass.

Yellow-straw with 1 finger of white head that dissipates quickly. Good clarity with tiny yeast particles suspended throughout.

hay, potpourri, lemon, and spent grain. Saison-esque.

Potpourri and hay. Spent grain, lemon zest, pear, and sourdough. Finishes with tons of peppercorn and a subtle earthiness.

Medium-light bodied, crisp, dry, and stingy with carbonation.

Spicy, earthy, and dry. Tastes like a brash, peppery saison.
