750ml bottle into a Haw River teku glass. Spring 2013 release so not the freshest.
Pours a dark copper color with a half inch thick white head with terrific lacing. Mild amount of hoppiness on the nose..as well as some piney goodness. The taste has a ton of wood flavor..wow. Really piney and woody, this beer is the definition of what a piney IPA is. Hops have faded a tad in 8 months and i can imagine this would be much more hop forward fresh...though it is still quite hoppy and now the wood characteristics are more pronounced. Cant say its my favorite flavor for an IPA but its what the brewery was going for and i think they nailed it. Medium bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall Hardywood nailed this woody IPA. If thats what youre looking for..look no further.
