"Hardywood Bourbon Barrel Cru is brewed in the fashion of the abbey quadrupel, the grand cru of many of Belgium’s revered monastic breweries. Bourbon Cru displays a sunset orange hue with a substantial head and brilliant clarity after months of barrel aging. The maturity and melding of flavors brought on by the freshly drained bourbon barrels lends an extraordinary sense of harmony to Bourbon Barrel Cru. Almond toffee and oaky vanilla aromatics give way to dark cherries, raisins and mature whiskey. A bit of plum flavor is greeted by caramel overtones and an assertive yet incredibly rounded body and a lingering, bourbon-laced finish.

This one doesn't do i for me!! The Bourbon Barrel flavor somewhat overwhelms the typical Quad aspects up front. Then the non-bourbon barrel flavors turn a bit sour through the rest of the beer, leaving an initial barrel flavoring up front and a mildly unpleasant sourness in the finish!!! Pours like a Quad...murky lightish brown color with a somewhat orange aspect when held to a light. The tan head is small and disappears fast with little lacing....expected in a strong beer poured into a goblet. Aroma is mostly bourbon barrel but there is some Quad like dark fruit here too. Initial taste has bourbon barrel somewhat overwhelming the dark fruit and mild sweetness of a Quad, An uneven mixture of a strong style and a strong flavoring not usually associated with that style. No yeast or Quad spicing in the taste. Just fruit and bourbon. Then it goes sour.....literally. The bourbon barrel flavoring is still good, but the rest of the beer descends into a mildly unpleasant sourness. Mouthfeel would be good if the taste was better. Rich and warming with no negative aspects of the high alcohol. Won't be trying this one again!!!

Opened and poured like a gusher, but the head quickly disappeared. Dark auburn colors. Scents of dark fruit, brown sugar, molasses, honey, and bourbon. Taste follows with similar notes. Well balanced, not as strong. Medium bodied, slightly thick, boozy. I like barrel aged quads, and I like Hardywood’s barrel aged beers. This did not disappoint.

Pours a red brown almost amber, dark and thick but almost see thru. Aroma is bourbon, dark cherries with a hint of plum. Taste is dark cherries and bourbon. The brew is moderate, falls off the tongue and there is little to no aftertaste; everything is forward based on the tongue. Very drinkable.

From the small bottle, it pours a clear darker amber with a very small head that reduces quickly to a thin ring. In the nose, it is a bit boozy with notes of bourbon and dark malts. In the mouth, smooth feel with notes of alcohol and malt - no off flavors. Enjoyable, but, be careful...
