Poured from the brewery into a Hardywood Park glass.

This is their 'Mocha Belgique' aged in Bourbon Barrels

A: Dark Brown/Blackish colouring. A small amount of head quickly dissipates with limited lacing.

S: Mostly Coffee and Roasted, some bourbon coming through on the behind. Scribbled on my notes is something about a perfect, pleasant mix of bourbon and beer that was lacking in the Bourbon Cru.

T: Coffee, Roast and Bourbon again - Chocolaty Roast, with the bourbon coming in but then being overpowered by the coffee flavors. I don't have anything in my notes about hops, and the bitterness comes from the coffee as well as hops. After tasting this with the regular Mocha it was unanimous amongst that this was far better.

M - Medium Thickness, good carbonation - spot on for this style of beer.

O: They need to make this again, only this time far more of it and bottle it. Far better than the regular Mocha Belgique, which was already a fantastic (although my least favorite of Hardywood so far) brew.

From tap to plastic cup at HPB on 7/7/12
*From notes

A: Dark, almost black in hue. The head is minimal, a quarter finger at most. Mocha in color. Lacking retention and not much of a collar.

S: More Mocha then bourbon. Lots of black medium roast. Hints of green earth. The bourbon dances in the background.

T: Yeah. I like this. A lot. Lots of chocolate - mounds of dark cocoa invade the palate up front. A big splash of bourbon washes over the mid. The finish is decidedly coffee forward, yet it's balanced and overall, the flavor profile is insanely well done.

M: Thicker then most of HPB's brews. A bit effecescent, yet it's got the proper viscosity and the weight is right on.

O: I'm really hoping this gets bottled, as I was supremely impressed by this one. Lines will form and threads will be created if this hits capped glass. Guaranteed. Delicious, complex and something I'd love to return to when the weather's a bit colder. Absolutely on point. Thumbs up.
