Notes/Commercial Description:
A Belgian wheat beer brewed with a touch of rye and a massive addition (over 1,000 lbs. per 40-barrel batch) of plump, ripe blackberries grown by Agriberry in Hanover County, Hardywood Virginia Blackberry offers an assertive fruit character while remaining extremely refreshing. Ruby hued with the bright aroma of fresh bramble berries, this beer’s pleasantly gentle body leads to a rather dry, rounded fruit finish, making it irresistible on a hot summer day.

Above average and crisp wit that borders on saison flavors. I wish there was more of a blackberry presence. It seemed to be there faintly as the beer warmed. Good beer, but I have had better in the style.

Disappointing, considering the commercial description of "1000 lbs of plump, ripe blackberries". On draft at Capone's, it looks like a standard witbier without any evidence of blackberries in the color and only a hint of berries in the aroma or taste. Frankly, a Blue
moon has substantially more character.

Appearance: reddish orange amber with some wheat haze and thin white head

Aroma: coriander, blackberries and fruitiness, orange citrus, blue curaçao

Taste: very Belgian yeasty with definite blackberry tartness, balanced, white wheaty flavor but with fruitiness that gives it some depth, overall not bursting with flavor but a very smooth and nice fruity, dry, and tart drink

Mouthfeel: medium-low body, a little thin in the mouth, high carbonation

Overall: Nicely balanced with strong tartness and smooth blackberry flavor with wheaty and spiced character from spice additions and belgian yeast phenols. Definitely worth a try

750ml bottle, split, hill farmstead glass

Interesting beer - a pink-rose color, moderately carbonated, light fluffy white head. One patron described tasting "band-aids" - more realistically, I think we all concluded not to buy berries sourced from the virginia commonwealth. Light spiced yeast, sweet berry flavor, wheat - nothing really standing out here, the blackberry could have been integrated so much better.

A: A nice pinkish orange color, good clarity. Some light colored head head that sinks back into the body of the beer.

S: Berry aroma, there is a definite tart smell, although it does not dominate. There is a nice white wine aroma, as well as some slight biscuit aromas.

T: Fairly light but with good flavor. Some biscuit flavors come out, as well as blackberry fruit, with the wine character shining through. Nice and light, a great summer beer.

M: Light in body, with a good amount of carbonation. A nice fruitiness lingers, which is nice. There is a softness to this that I enjoy a lot.

O: Overall very good, crisp, flavorful, and fairly light. Enjoyable, and a great beer for a hot day.

Poured from the bottle into a globe glass nearly identical to the one on the bottle, sure why not, we shall forego tulip, wheat ale, or witbier ness in favor of length.

Peach orange to pink body and solidly opaque. Faint cream head that is a bit orange light and off white colored. Makes about 2 fingers tall, good retention and some nice creamy thick collar and thin puck while settling. Pretty solid.

The bouquet is pretty quiet down there. Some faint hints of sucrose sweetness, maybe even some cinnamon and nutmeg like dark spice action sensations which seem surprising. Doesn't particularly smell fruity.

Palate comes with an interesting take. Very dry and powdery chalky texture, with a wet body feel. Mid fruits but doesn't seem to hint in any direction. Not particularly tart, but not particularly sweet either. Some sense of classic sucrose but quite fleeting.

Overall a nice beer, and hints at Belgian character minus a big wheaty malt and chewy depth, but it's not particularly fruity. Oh well at least it's drinkable and I've had far worse.
