Poured from the bottle into a globe glass. 2014 release.
Big copper red and orange body, with a nice peach orange hue to it. Head is fluffy and creamy with a vanilla yellow ice cream looking color. This bubbles in consistency some speckled lacing.
Boozy aging, hints of thick oak and caramel. A bit of brown sugar syrup thickness, and odd mix of butter and fruit. Hops not so much, but smells like a barrel aged IPA.
Palate is of course what I expect in this mish mash. Oaked caramel that is buttery. Strange indistinct hop bitterness with a clashing tannic wood. Very numbing tannic palate, almost novocaine dryness. Faint orange light juice comes out a bit, through an interesting but slightly watery palate.
So aside from the fact it comes off like a clashing mess, where is the Belgian character in this? Neither hop driven, nor even very well complimentary barrel forgiving. This just doesn't work.

2013 bottle into a snifter.
Pours a dark copper red with a nice 1 finger head. Smell is light on bourbon and some hops..more on the bourbon side though. Taste is slight bourbon and slight hops, doesnt mix too well together in my opinion. More on the barleywine side than IPA side. ABV not too apparent, a bit too syrupy for my liking. Almost full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall cant say i loved this one. A decent beer...
