2013 bottle into a snifter.
Pours a dark copper red with a nice 1 finger head. Smell is light on bourbon and some hops..more on the bourbon side though. Taste is slight bourbon and slight hops, doesnt mix too well together in my opinion. More on the barleywine side than IPA side. ABV not too apparent, a bit too syrupy for my liking. Almost full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall cant say i loved this one. A decent beer...

A- Body is a deep copper color with just a hint of transparency. Head is cream colored and quite prominent after a normal pour. Lots of frothy bubbles and lacing.
S- Sweet boozy oak, hints of vanilla, caramel and toasted malts, slight piney hop presence that comes and goes.
T- Boozy and malty up front, with some of the sweet vanilla and oak barrel flavors coming through towards the middle. Just before the finish the is a hint of a malty and hoppy flavor that resembles a IIPA, but then the boozy barrel takes over into the finish. There is so much going on and there does to seem to be a great balance between the flavors. The muddled flavors may be due to the boozy presence, but there is some potential as pleasant flavors do show themselves from time to time.
M- Full-bodied, medium carbonation, slight alcohol burn.
O- The nose on this one is fantastic, but for me, the booze takes over way too quickly. If I drank this blind I would say it was a barrel-aged barleywine. There are not too many DIPA characteristics left in this beer, and the Belgian yeast was hardly noticeable.
