Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

2013 vintage.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, and slight bourbon aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, coffee, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a slightly better bourbon presence in the flavor. (664 characters)

Single finger head with excellent lacing on a near jet black/dark brown body. Aroma is a little light with lots of caramel and brown sugar with additional notes true bourbon, a little coffee and milk chocolate. Flavor follows with bourbon, light coffee, roasted malt, and a little chocolate. This one has a great caramel aroma. The coffee is well applied although I want more from the coffee, definitely not over done or too bitter. This is an excellent beer. (459 characters)

Appearance: Cola brown with a tan head that streaks some lacing

Smell: Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, molasses and Bourbon

Taste: Surprisingly bitter, up front, which may be the coffee and may be the hop bill; chocolate and molasses tones build but the Bourbon really comes on strong in the middle; the finish was slightly phenolic

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I found the beer rather unbalanced; sometimes beers like this have the flavors blend together - other times they clash; this one was a clasher (533 characters)

lots of oak on this one, more oak then bourbon really in the flavor, a bit sweet, and massive in both body and alcohol. its a strong beer that definitely has the capacity to put you over the edge, so be sure to share it and sip it. the coffee accentuates an already huge dark body of roasted barley and bakers chocolate, while its bitterness doesnt do much to slow down the intensely sweet complexion here. tons of viscosity, this is a thick, syrupy brew that lacks any real carbonation, but it doesnt need it. the coffee is pretty pungent, and works well with all the oak. my second beer from hardywood i liked a little better than my first, but its still a bit of a booze bomb. it smells and tastes hot, and may did i feel this one. to be fair, it wasnt my first beer of the night, not even close, but it just seemed a little less well refined than some of the others out there in the huge barrel stout world. palate coating and a bit sludgy, but well made. this has spent some serious time in the barrel and its a great expression of oak and dark malt, but a little tough to get through. (1,090 characters)

Smooth, sultry and quite flirtatious with the tastebuds, the otherwise seducing flavors of wonderfully burnt sugar, creamy espresso and bittersweet chocolate coax out the lush in all of us; but woven into a cocoon of bourbon and the taste is nearly overwhelming.

Its ominously black pour intimidates the eye as a caldering simmer of creme rises from its depths. Quickly favoring brandy-type legging over lace or retention, its swirling ink unleashes sweet roast, smoky chocolate and coconut aromatics. Its seared toffee underlay easily supports the roast, oak and booze while offering the heartiness of black-strap molasses and maple.

Its roasty-sweet middle unfolds layer by layer, starting with the delicacy of brownie batter, over-cooked caramel, bittersweet chocolate and something in the fudge realm. As the sweetness slowly releases its grip, its dark roast coffee, light campfire, bittersweet morsels and grilled walnuts take hold and usher in a semi-sweet second half.

With its decadent sweetness resisting much fade, its booze-laden sweetnesses seep deeply into the tastebuds, delivering bourbon warmth, wood spice and smooth char to the senses. Thin fruit of coconut, cherry and vine are highlighted with the oaken caramel and vanilla taste that accompanies the roast in deep aftertaste and afterthought. (1,317 characters)

Pours with one finger of off white foam on a black body. The head fades quickly and leaves nice lace. Vanilla, whiskey, and herbal, fruity coffee. Smoky coffee and caramel up front with lots of dark chocolate in the finish. A fairly thick body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish. Nicely done, the barrel character is mostly in the aroma, while the flavors profile is full of dark chocolate and coffee. Subtle and well balanced. (437 characters)

a - Pours a deep dark mahogany brown color with two inches of thick dark tan head and low to moderate carbonation evident. Looks pretty good.

s - Smells of bourbon, vanilla, light coffee, roasted malts, light bitter chocolates, and some cream. Nose is nice, a tiny bit too sweet I think though.

t - Tastes bourbon, roasted malts, caramel malts, chocolate, toffee, oak, vanilla, cream, and toasted malts. More coffee as it warms up, a step up from the nose.

m - Medium body stout and low carbonation. Pretty easy to drink, no real heat for 10.3% ABV. Nice body.

o - Overall a very nice BA American stout. Nice sweet bourbon throughout that works well. Taste is much better than the nose; extra caramel and not as sweet. Worth checking out, would definitely like to have it again. (838 characters)

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Release and vintage 2014.

Very much like it's non barrel aged brother regular Sidamo only better appearance mostly from head retention. Thick creamy tan brown head, two fingers tall with a creamy collar to match, probably a little darker. Dark walnut brown body, and quite opaque to match. Good scattered leopard and striped lacing on the glass too.

Bouquet is nice. Sense of a thicker body possibly coming, a nice soft mix of fruit juice and soft acid. Hints of sour cherry, mellow oak and hints of buttery caramel. Still doesn't remind me of coffee but comes out like a solid barrel aged imperial stout.

Palate is bringing the goods. Great thick and supper creamy mouthfeel, bringing nice soft vanilla sweetness. Mellow charring and coating hints of soft acid and fruit qualities. Dark chocolate ganache is everywhere, and rinses on my palate going down. A real wonderful mix of sundae mellow sweet toppings, butterscotch, dark fudge, caramel, vanilla, and creamy flavors. Not very coffee present.

Overall it still doesn't remind me of coffee, but has this great fruity and mellow softness and great chocolate dark and sundae flavor that it just improved ten fold in the glass from the barrel. Well done! (1,255 characters)

Appearance - Black body. Small khaki head. Medium collar.

Smell - Milk chocolate. Coffee. A little bit of bourbon. Vanilla.

Taste - Bourbon up front. A little coffee. Milk chocolate throughout. A little nutty in the back.

Mouthfeel - Medium low carbonation. A little creamy.

Overall - Strange that it tastes nothing like the base beer. Weird. (385 characters)

Received this in a trade, poured into a tulip.

A - Poured a nude dark black with a good mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and a nice blanket.

S - Aromas of super super light base beer. Disappointing how muted the coffee is here. The bourbon is light too.

T - Taste is light bourbon, the coffee and chocolate are super muted which is a huge let down. Rather sweet malts, the bourbon actually takes away from this beer.

M - Mouthfeel is nice, creamy.

O - Overall this beer was actually hurt by the bourbon barrel. It really muted the beer which was unfortunate. Ahhh, oh well. (589 characters)

Poured a black body with one finger khaki head that died quick with no lace. Aroma of coffee, wood, booze, chocolate and touch of blueberry from the sidamo coffee bean (not nearly as prevelant as regular sidamo stout). Solid build and sturdy, the roasted coffee malts mix with some sweetness and the wood adds a boozy, vanilla, bourbon type feel. Smooth and full bodied, this is a pretty solid sipper. (403 characters)

Pours a very dark brown, basically black, with a one inch mocha head, and a medium amount of lacing.

Smells like chocolate liqueur, bourbon, roasted malt, and a bit of coffee.

Thankfully, the coffee is stronger in the taste. There is some smooth, well integrated bourbon, rich chocolate, along with some mildly bitter, slightly nutty coffee taste. There is the smallest tart-ish twang at the end of each sip from the bourbon and coffee.

Medium bodied, could be slightly thicker. Fairly drinkable. Low carbonation. Very creamy mouthfeel.

Yet another awesome BA stout consumed this past weekend, I think this one's a little better than the ratings suggest. (705 characters)

a - brew pours a deep rich brown/black with 2 fingers of frothy tan foamy head that didn't hang out long, but left some streaky lacing on the glass.

s - nose is bitter coffee and anise with a good dosing of soft bourbon peatiness.

t - opens with big coffee nice roast hints of chocolate and then wood with some sort of booziness to it. not very bourbon forward but a tad biting from an seedy anise flavor. moderate bitterness. finish is a bit rough and raw.

m - fairly silky aside from the biting finish.

o - overall, in the world of barrel aged beers with coffee in them, this really tows the line of average at best. drinkable, in the way that a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich will always be edible but some pb&j sandwhiches makes you question what the sandwhich maker was thinking. perhaps this one didn't spend enough time in the barrels? perhaps i held it too long? either way, not a drain pour, but far from something i'd be eager to have again. (1,072 characters)

A: This poured a nearly opaque black mahogany with a little tan head.
S: It smelled like sour oak and bourbon and some mocha.
T: It tasted like lots of oak and bourbon, with some sour yeast and dark chocolate and coffee grounds. It had a sweet and sour aftertaste with alcohol warming.
M: It was thick with some carbonation. Nice heavy body.
D: This was interesting, not sure if it was supposed to have the sour character or maybe the bottle was infected. Was reminiscent of Le Coq. Not bad, but not my favorite. Pretty hot finish too, so it must be sipped. Ok to try once, but not what I was hoping it would be. (612 characters)

The beer comes in a black color with a mocha brown head.

The aroma has a bourbon, vanilla, and an espresso coffee.

The flavor follows of a woody, almost chalky espresso coffee. Not very fresh and roasted like other coffee beers. Bourbon and vanilla follow along with roasted malt. The body is a bit light. (307 characters)

A - Pours dark black with a light toffee colored lacing ring.

S - Coffee, light wood and chocolate, some cream, perhaps a little dark fruit which is unusual for a coffee stout.

T - Starts with chocolate malt and cream, then migrates to vanilla, dark chocolate, light bourbon,before finishing with a moderately assertive coffee bean bitterness that lingers.

M - Medium body, light carbonation.

750ml bottle into a snifter.

A: Pours a very dark cola brown color that looks distressingly thin. The head starts off at about one fingers of a light khaki shade, but settles down to a thin collar after a short while. Not much lacing, as expected.

S: No one note jumps out at me - rather, they tend to meld together quite well. I pick up some vanilla, touches of black coffee, chocolate, cream, molasses, and brown sugar. The bourbon presence is very subtle.

T: The first sip seems to reveal the bourbon tones, only for the second sip to wash over that with mild coffee notes. After vanilla initially opens the palate, it develops strong nutty flavors in the middle before it finishes with some bitter coffee and maybe a speck of roasted barley. I think the coffee is stale here - though to be fair, it's not the freshest bottle so I'll let it slide. It doesn't have an annoying vegetal component, at least. Well balanced and enjoyable.

M: It's texture is rather thin and even fragile, without much softness to make up for it. The finish is rather sweet and sticky; in spite of that, the drinkability is actually quite dangerous partly thanks to strong carbonation. The underwhelming body still kind of irks me, though.

O: I have two quibbles here: it's not very 'stout-y', and it's way too thin. Otherwise, this is a decent BA coffee stout that focuses more on balance than big, bold flavor. At its price, though, I probably won't buy another bottle, except for usage as trade bait. (1,488 characters)

Imperial sidamo coffee stout aged 12 weeks in bourbon barrels

APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, light tan head with good retention. Clear bistre brown body with higher levels of carbonation for the style. Lots of bubbles. Head slowly fades to a full foam cap and coats the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp and ring remain but leave no real lacing down the glass. Very clear and thin body with too much carbonation for the style.

SMELL: Roasted coffee beans initially, then some bourbon, oak and sweet cream and vanilla on the nose. Light roasted notes and caramel as well. Medium strength but well balanced.

TASTE: Bourbon and alcohol up front with a boozy, sharp alcohol finish. Too boozy and harsh. Big and lingering finish is very boozy with some bitter, roasted coffee beans, bourbon, and some roasted grain. A touch of bitter chocolate too, but the piercing alcohol is pretty unpleasant, overpowering the coffee and roasted flavors. Rough, rough going really.

PALATE: Medium-thinner body with higher levels of carbonation. Lighter on the palate, goes down okay with a bit of a scratch and finishes mouth-coating. Lots of heat and booze lingers.

OVERALL: I really wanted to like this one, but it just wasn't meant to be. It began promising, but it was simply too boozy and harsh in the flavor, and too thin, light and hot in the feel. There is some potential here, but they'd have to take care of the overly harsh alcohol and the unpleasantly thin and abrasive feel before I'd bother with this one again. Not my thing. A - bours a super dark deep brown with a decent finger of caramel head, lacing is kind of weak

S - Woody bourbon dark fruits and sweet chocolate, molasses, and brown sugar.

T - dark fruits, sweet chocolate, brown sugars, and dry barley wine-like hops

M - mediumish bodied thickish on the tongue - well carbonated.

O - tasty sweet kick of bourbon after the dark fruit takeover make it. otherwise pretty run of the mill - although tasty (439 characters)

Split this with my wife on a snow day/Valentines Day. Served in 2 snifters.

A: Black as night, with more mocha head than I was expecting, especially considering the barrel-aged status.

S: I got a shit ton more blueberry smell on this version of the Sidamo….. almost crossing into Aud Bruin territory. Not much coffee and maybe a hint of coconut.

T: Silky, lots of vanilla, and still a hint of those blueberries. If you're looking for coffee, look elsewhere. The barrels turned the Sidamo into an Almond Joy bar.

M: A few bitter notes started to slap my palate after about the 4th sip or so, but nothing to write home about in that regard. Silky, smooth, and foamy, like a Frappuccino.

O: My wife liked the regular Sidamo better, but I prefer this one. To each their own, I guess. Excellent stuff. (803 characters)

Very chocolatey with a high end coffee roast. I get a creaminess that blends with the coffee very well before a woodsy, spicy, oakey barrel flavor settles in. (158 characters)

750ml bottle (2013 release) poured into a Brooklyn snifter.

A - Pours opaque and pitch black in color. A tall finger of frothy, mocha milk shake like in color and texture head persists for several minutes and leaves some webs of lacing on the glass.

S - Sweet bourbon up front, lightly boozy, berries, notes of anise, loads of roasty coffee, traces of molasses.

T - Coffee takes the lead with big roasty flavors up front, a touch acrid and burnt, molasses, fruity berry-like flavors, mild bourbon that comes on towards the finish and lingers far past the swallow and leaving a warm, mildly boozy impression.

M - Fairly full bodied beer with a firm mid-level carbonation with a tingly feel on the tongue. Roasty, overall with a bit of a burnt and acrid character overall. Bourbon is mild in feel giving just a faint warmth especially after the swallow. Lingering berry components far outlast even the bourbon and can be "tasted" on every breath.

O - Really subtle barrel aging on this one. Bourbon is only barely perceptible on the nose and just slightly more prominent in the flavor and feel of this beer. Berry flavors are plentiful and lingering, perhaps from the particular blend of Sidamo coffee used here. Nice coffee imperial stout - I'm not blown away but it is not at all unenjoyable on this rainy Sunday afternoon. (1,328 characters)

A- Very dark brown pour, looks black in the glass with just a hint of amber towards the top. Frothy tan head the lingers as a thin layer of bubbles scattered on top.

S- Coffee, vanilla, blueberry, caramel, hint of cocoa powder as well with some roasty malts.

T- Lots of malt and coffee flavors up front, sweet bourbon, caramel and vanilla flavors come in later, roasty finish.

M- Sting on the tongue, somewhat boozy, medium carbonation, full bodied, but syrupy.

O- The feel of the regular sidamo is much better. The aroma on this one is better, but I think I prefer the regular. (582 characters)
