Pennsylvania

3.21/5  rDev -11.1%

pours a clear light straw gold with a finger and a half fluffy white head that fades very quickly into a thin ring.

Aroma of light toasted malt and grain.

Taste follows the nose with a light grain and malt with a very slight fruit sweetness and a slight floral hop finish.

Mouth Feel was light body, with moderate carbonation, smooth with some fizziness and a dry finish.

Overall very light and refreshing if your looking for a thirst quencher this is your beer. When I first saw this green can with t eh words "Cream Ale", I had a throw back to years ago when everyone in Northern Pennsylvania was drinking Genny Cream Ale. Thank god this was a lot better.

Thanks to smokeypeat for this one... Awesome dude, awesome trader. Hardywood Cream Ale pours a nice, golden-orange color. Pretty murky throughout, with a HUGE number of rising carbonation bubble streams. The chunky and cloud-like head is thick and slow to settle; it's a shade just lighter than beige and leaves a little lacing behind.

The aroma is pretty light and relaxed, but pretty on-point for the style. Handfuls of cereal grains, bread notes, and a touch of sweet corn. Very "barley-esque" in nature, and the sweetness of the corns isn't so much that it becomes overwhelming which is oft a problem with cream ales.

Light hoppage is appreciated; slightly floral and earthy, and maybe even a touch dirty. A mild lemon and citrus spritz shows up in the finale with the gentle crispiness and clean finish of lager yeast. Nothing incredibly complex, mind-blowing, or rampant, but something easy to relax with and appreciate while sitting out in the hot sun.

Hardywood Cream Ale is very smooth and drinkable - I can already make this assessment after just one sip. A framework of grains and barley with some hints of corn and crisp yeast that bounce back and forth. Lightly sweet from the start; just enough to ease drinkability without approaching disturbing levels.

The corn sweetness fades quickly into a mild and apparent bitterness from the hops, which are definitely more present on the palate. Earthy, floral, and meshed perfectly with the light and zesty lemon and citrus notes on the very back end. It has a clean, dry finish, thanks to the lagering of this brew with appropriate yeast.

Wow, I don't know if I've ever seen my glass empty this quickly before. This is up there with Schlenkerla Helles as one of the most easily drinkable beers I've had. Again, this beer isn't going to blow your mind. But that's not its intention. I threw this back during a family barbecue and it was the perfect choice. Very nice cream ale.

Canned 6/11/14, poured into a pint

A- pours a clear golden-yellow color with a small creamy white head that retains nicely due to the carbonation bubbles continuously shooting to the top

S- faint traces of whipped cream, slightly grassy with some earthy malt, overall pretty muted

T- sweet cream soda flavor up front leads to clean barley and lager yeast, trace of floral and earthy hop on a slightly sweet finish

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel leading to a cream and smooth finish

O- very simple and easy drinking with a nice subtle creamy sweetness

A: A deep straw color with very nice clarity. bright white head on top that gentle falls in onto itself.

S: There is a nice flour and bread aroma.. Fresh baked bread with a little bit of grain. There is a slightly fruity note, possibly from yeast the yeast, which Is reminiscent of a sweet fruity sparkling wine.

T: The bread smell continues through the flavor, slight corn flavor, as well as a shot of dry bitterness. The hop character comes out as slightly earthy.

M: Soft mouthfeel, fairly high carbonation, and fairly dry.

O: Overall light and refreshing. The low amount of bitterness adds some interest, but not a lot of pizazz. Still overall a great beer for the beach, or after a long day in the hot sun.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. Canned Jan 24th 2014, slightly old here.

A soapy thick and bone white head three fingers tall, sits on a cloudy and murky apricot orange to amber body. Some fine floaties. Head settles very slowly with some soapy retention.

Aroma is virtually non existent. Some sweet grains a bit, a little bit of orange like juice. Not much really going on or to say here.

Palate brings a little bit of the subdued senses. Mild pleasurable malt bill, with a good thick body. Slightly orange fruit sensations, and minimal bitterness. A bit of nice juiced quality to the beer, but struggling to find more to say.

I am not sure being that old for a cream ale is making a difference, but while enjoyable there is not a lot going on, compared to other creams I've had.
